Jerome “Jerry” I. Hoff, age 77, passed away at his Landisville, PA home on June 30, 2025. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Born in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late John Hoff and Frances (Rotay) Hoff.

Jerry graduated from Bishop Kenrick High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in history from Penn State University. He met his wife, Julie, at college. After their marriage, they settled in Lancaster and Jerry began his career while serving in The Pennsylvania National Guard. He obtained an accounting certificate from Franklin and Marshall College and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant. For over 40 years, Jerry had a distinguished career in accounting, working both in public firms and in private industry. He retired from Murray Insurance Company as Controller. Following his retirement, he continued to do accounting work for small businesses and to provide tax services.

Born in Berlin, Germany in 1945, Werner “Vern” Marten came to the United States in 1966 on a Fulbright scholarship. He attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he studied business and history. While still in school, Vern worked for the Paul Todd Spice Extraction Company, where he discovered a lifelong passion for food ingredients, flavors, and spices. This passion would lead to a successful and dynamic career. He joined McCormick Spice Company, which took him from coast to coast. Later, an old McCormick colleague recruited him to join Flavors of North America, managing flavor sales across the northeastern United States and in Europe until his retirement in 2002.

Colette retired after 20 years as a successful realtor with Coldwell Banker where she was awarded “Realtor of the Year” several times. Before her real estate career, she enjoyed teaching at St. Anne’s Catholic School for many years and was dearly loved by her students. She was also a dance instructor for many years, beginning during the summers while she attended Western Illinois University.

Lois R. Miller, 87, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Alta Elma Hostetter Rainar. Lois graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School, class of 1955. She worked as the secretary for the Manheim Township Commissioners for decades. She was a faithful member of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, Lancaster for the past 30 years. She enjoyed word puzzles and monthly get-togethers with high school friends. Lois’s greatest joy was her family. She regularly attended sporting events and music performances for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings for birthdays and holidays. Traveling to the beach with her family was a tradition that carried on for over 40 years, including just a few weeks ago. She was always in her element in a beach chair with her toes in the sand and a crossword in her hand.

Anna Marie “Annie” Shaub, 98, of Lancaster, died peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Trillium Place, Lancaster. Born in Frankstown, Pa she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Dorothy Barroner Bouslough. Anna was the loving wife of Melvin H. Shaub who died in 2005. She was a faithful member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she loved singing the hymns. Anna graduated from the former Dickinson Junior College and later began her career as a Medical Secretary Technician in the Cardiology department at Lancaster General Hospital where she retired from in 1982. She had a love of the beach, especially Stone Harbor and Avalon New Jersey. Swimming was a passion of Anna’s and she also took great joy in playing cards. Volunteering in the church office and helping to deliver Meals on Wheels with friends quickly became favorite post-retirement activities as well.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene, her parents George and Elizabeth as well as her brothers Walt and his wife Pat, Wayne and his wife Patty, Raymond, and Paul. She is survived by her brother Fred and his wife Judy, Herb and his wife Patty, her sister Jan, sister-in-law Judy widow of Raymond, numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Johnstown, PA, Dolores married her high school sweetheart, Gene Simasek on August 8, 1959. Together, they raised 6 children in Havertown and West Chester, PA. Dolores was a devoted and loving mother to Bernie (Sara), Steve (Linda), Beth Conway (Frank), Lori Elwood (Steve), Amy McEvoy (Bob) and Holly Sciortino (Nate) as well as 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s various interests such as 4-H, the Philadelphia Boys Choir, Boy Scouts, musical instruments, sports and dance.
