Elizabeth Boyer Heisler “M.E.B”, 90: Elizabeth Boyer Heisler "M.E.B.", 90, formerly of Rosemont, PA, died Monday November 12, 2012, at Lakeside at Willow Valley, Willow Street, PA. Daughter of the late Daniel B. and Blanche Rigner Boyer, she was born in Boyertown, which was named after her father's family. Her husband of 57 years Clifford Budd Heisler died in 1999.; Continue >

Samuel Jerome Ha, 77: Samuel Jerome Ha, 77, died Tuesday Aug 7 2012 from complications of cancer in Lancaster, PA. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1957 and earned his PhD in marine biology from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science in 1973. In 1971, he began a 27 year career at Millersville University which lasted until his retirement in 1998. He served as Chair of the MU Biology Department from 1985 to 1990 and Chair of the Faculty Senate from 1987 to 1990. He was also a driving force in the development of the Marine Science Consortium, an organization dedicated to marine biology education where he taught and served on the Board for many years. He was especially proud of his role in helping students go on to graduate school. Following his retirement, he volunteered at the Landis Valley Museum and the Lititz Library.; Continue >

Francis Joseph Haefner Sr., 78: Francis Joseph Haefner Sr. passed away after a lengthy and courageous battle on Monday, July 24, 2023. Dad was surrounded by many family and friends during the final week of his earthly journey. Born in Lancaster on January 13, 1945, he was the youngest son of Leon and Kathryn Haefner. Frances H. Hager: Frances H. Hager of 1515 Quarry Lane, Lancaster, died at the age of 93 on January 2, 2009 at her home, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Redmond C. "Bobby" Hager who died in 1988. Born in Lancaster in 1915, she was the daughter of Frank A. and Elise Hurter Heckendorn. Frances attended Lancaster City schools and after high school graduation, worked at the Hager Store, where she met her husband, Bobby. They married in 1939. Her focus then turned to that of mother and homemaker, raising three daughters. Frances and Bobby spent many happy years with their children at The Maples, on Columbia Avenue. She and Bobby moved to Quarry Lane in 1981. Frances is survived by her sister, Jane H. Abel, who resides at Willow Valley, her two daughters, Dr. Margaret H. Hager, Philadelphia, and Dr. Katherine H. Plotnicov, Pittsburgh, by three grandchildren: Christian A. Hartleben, Dr. Lara H. Addiego and Alexei R. Plotnicov, as well as by two great- grandsons: Ben and Connor Addiego. Nieces and nephews also survive. Frances was pre-deceased by her brother, Franklin Heckendorn, her eldest daughter, Elise Hager Calder, and her grandson, Andrei M. Plotnicov. Her love, grace and generosity will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at Charles Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George Street Millersville on Saturday, January 10th. Visitation will begin at 2 PM with the memorial service following at 2:30 PM. James A. Hager, 84: James A. Hager, 84 years of age died at LGH after an illness. A gentle man devoted to his family- especially his grandchildren. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the foster son of the late George and Theodora Mineur. He was a long time member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, where he was an usher for more than 50 years. He worked at the former Hamilton Watch Co. for 41 years in the machine shop as a tool maker. James served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945 aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Lexington as a gunner's mate 1st class in the Pacific theatre of World War II. Besides his wife of 63 years the former Teresa Paone, he is survived by three children; Patricia Rhoads (Tim) of E. Petersburg, James A. Hager (Debra) of State College, Pa., S. Joseph Hager (Catherine) of Battle Creek, MI; a beloved brother-in law Sam Paone; a foster sister Gloria Mineur of Harrisburg; two foster brothers George Mineur of Lusby, MD, and Leonard Mineur of New Hope, PA; 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by a grand daughter, Sarah Hager. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 13, 2009 at St. Annes's Catholic Church 929 N. Duke St Lancaster, PA 17602 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Norman Hohenwarter as celebrant. Family and friends will be received at the Charles F. Peggy Joan Hamm, 79: Peggy Joan Hamm, 79, of Lititz, passed away on Thursday, March 07, 2013 at her residence. Born in Fries, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Solomon Braxton Hamm and Rita Mae (Melton) Hamm. Peggy graduated from Bluefield College in Bluefield Virginia and attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Peggy was a secretary supervisor for Cornell University. She enjoyed photography, writing, country music, and zoology. She was a long time resident of Austin, Texas before coming to live with family in Lititz in her declining years. Surviving are two sons: John Hash, husband of Theresa, of Germantown, TN and Charles B. Hash, husband of Christine, of Lititz, PA; eight grandchildren: John Hash III, Christine Hash, David Hash, Alexander Hash, Willem Hash, Samuel Hash, Genevieve Hash and Jesse Hash; a sister, Myrtis Testerman; and a brother, JB Hamm.
