Marianna M. Spadea, 98

Marianna M. Spadea, 98, of Lancaster died at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy Center on Saturday, September 3, 2011.  Born in Gasperina, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Theresa (Yemallo) Madonna. She was the wife of the late Joseph Spadea who passed away on February 20, 2000.

At the age of 14, she became a business woman and ran the family rental properties after her father passed away.  She then worked as a food manager at Conestoga View for twenty years.

She enjoyed cooking, collecting Catholic memorabilia such as medals, rosaries, and statues, listening to Italian music, and dogs.  Marianna volunteered and was a benefactor for the Dominican Sisters at their Lititz Pike convent.  Proud of her Italian heritage, she was the past president of the Italian American Citizens Club.  A member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, she was involved in the Legion of Mary and organized various parish bus trips to religious shrines on feast days.

Her two daughters preceded her in death: Teresa I. Spadea who passed in 2004 and Rosa Anna Spadea who passed away in 1982.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial  at 11 am on Friday, September 9, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 501 East Orange Street Lancaster 17602 with Rev. John Acri as celebrant.  Friends will be received at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 East King Street Lancaster 17602 from 6pm to 8pm with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 8 and again Friday morning 9:30am to 10:30am at the funeral home. Following the Mass, interment will be at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.  Contributions can be made in Marianna’s name to Hospice of Lancaster County 685 Good Dr. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 hospiceoflancaster.org.  To send an online condolence or for more information please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com.
