Marian J. Hess, 85

March 20, 2015

Marian J. Hess, 85, of Harrisburg, formerly of Millersville, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Hershey Medical Center. Born in Reading, PA she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Gertrude (Reese) Vital.
She worked at various nursing facilities and was a nurse’s aide at the former St. Joseph Hospital for 15 years retiring in 1993.
Marian was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster.
She enjoyed gardening, weeding, cross stitching, doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo, watching the Phillies, doing volunteer work and caring for others. Her family brought a lot of joy to her and she enjoyed her grandsons and great-grandsons immensely and loved all babies. Marian found great comfort and joy in her faith in God.
She was the most loving and forgiving person we knew. She had a difficult childhood, but made that a tool to be an extremely strong and independent woman.
Marian is survived by a son, William G. “Bill” Hess, husband of Laurel of Lititz, a daughter, Kelly S. Haarer wife of Kenneth of Harrisburg; five grandsons, Ryan Dougherty (Carolina), Karl Froehlich (Gen), Robin Hess, Nathan Froehlich (Ariel), Christopher Hess (Arabella) and four great-grandsons, Mitchell, Dylan, Brycen, Henry; three brothers, James, Daniel David and one sister, Dorothy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Eugene, her sister Gertrude and her beloved daughter Kathleen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 407 Lafayette St, Lancaster, PA 17603. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be private in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marian’s memory may be made to the church at the above address.

Condolences to the Family

March 22, 2015

My heart is heavy with pain for the loss of my wonderful Aunt Marian. I loved her dearly and will surely miss her . She was always a pleasure to be around and would always make me feel welcome when I visited. She was a lovely lady, both inside and out and always took good care of my mother. Rest in peace Aunt Marian, I love you!

Dear Kelly and Billy,
Im so sorry to hear of your moms passing. She is now in heaven and reunited with her daughter and our sister Kathy. I have many don’t memories of your mom, Kathy use to take me over to your house on different weekends and your mom would be outside planting or in the kitchen cooking/baking.
My thoughts and prayers are with you both at this difficult time.
sincerely,
Brenda Brinkman (Bender Hohman)
