Joanne L. Herr, 80

January 13, 2015

Joanne L. Herr, 80, of Millersville, passed away on January 13 at The Glen in Willow Valley Retirement Community. Joanne was born in Lancaster and was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Bauer.
She was the wife of John H. Herr, Jr.
A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will be deeply missed by family and friends. Throughout her life, Joanne was known for the numerous ways she helped others. Her interest in care giving led her to work at The General Hospital for many years as a Nurse’s Aide. She continued similar work at several area retirement communities. During this time she raised her three children and cared for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s.
In 1977, Joanne married John H. Herr Jr. For nearly two decades Joanne joined him at John Herr’s Village Market in Millersville where she worked at the front office and took care of customers questions. Anyone who knew Joanne appreciated her kind and thoughtful ways. Joanne loved spending time with family and enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and gardening.
The family thanks The Glen for the competent help Joanne received over the past eleven years.
Joanne is survived by her oldest son, David Troop, his wife Kimberly, their two children Devon Troop, and Rick Troop, Rick’s wife Leanne, and daughter Mikenzie; Joanne’s son Michael Troop, his wife Tina, their son Ryan, his wife Olysa, their daughter Megan Schneider, and Megan’s 2 children Landon and Haven Teal Schneider. And her stepson, Daniel L. Herr and partner Tina Jobes and son Frank J. Herr. Joanne was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Leaf. Susan is survived by children Josh, his wife Heather, their children Jack, Milo and Hudson; son Jacob, his wife Lindsey and children Caidyn, and Molly; Susan’s son Nicholos, his wife Kristy and son Jace, and; Susan’s daughter Kristin Leaf. Joanne was also preceded by a brother Donald Bauer.
The Funeral Service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 163 W. Frederick St, Millersville, PA on Monday January 19, 2015 at 11am with Pastor John Laughlin officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at the church from 9:30-11am for the viewing. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater PA, 2595 Interstate Dr, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or online at www.alz.org.
Joanne will be remembered by the words — death leaves a space difficult to heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Mike and Tina and family,  know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.  Heaven has gained another loved one and greeted her with great joy and welcome….and one day she will once again welcome you into her world-heaven-  just as she once welcomed you in her world here on earth.  Nothing said makes loss any easier. …just lean hard on Jesus.  Know that it is ok to cry, to mourn the loss of someone precious in your life, even as you rejoice that she is well and whole once again and has entered into her reward.   If we can do anything,  please reach out.  Much love from the Rambo family.

Dear Jack, My  thoughts are with you, as they have been for a long time during Joanne’s decline.  All of us who knew Joanne loved her and remember the good times. in particular, I recall the  gathering for dinner with you and Joanne and my parents at Lakes Manor.  Jack, I wish I could be in Lancaster right now to give you a hug in person, but please know that I grieve with you.
With love, from Cousin Ann Brenneman Hoffer
