Ingrid A. Cooper, 80

July 29, 2015

Ingrid A. Cooper, 80, of Lititz and formerly of Clark St in Lancaster, went to be with The Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
She was the wife of the late John “Jack” Cooper, who passed away in 2005. Born in Hausneindorf, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Elsbeth Siemenrot Weidner.
Ingrid had provided childcare in her home for over 20 years, until her retirement in 1995.
An active member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, she had been a Sunday School teacher, the Vacation Bible School coordinator, and a member of the Senior Shepherds. Her faith was of great importance in her life and, after emmigrating from East Germany in the 1950s, she valued the freedom of religion that the United States offered.
Ingrid was a very talented quilter and seamstress, being a member of the Red Rose Quilters and donated many of her quilts to local womens’ shelters. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout leader, was a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz and the Dutchland Polkateers.
She is survived by her children: Charmaine married to Stefan Colosimo of Asheville, NC, Christine married to John A. Emel of Lancaster, and Peter J. married to Sabiene G.Cooper of West Chester; her grandchildren Joshua and Brian Emel, and Kyle and Emily Cooper and several relatives in Germany. She was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Stepanchick.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 from 10-11AM, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Ingrid’s memory to The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd at the above address or the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Condolences to the Family

July 22, 2018

Cooper family, I was just thinking of Mrs Cooper and googled and found this. I want to let you know that I think of her often, even though I never got back in touch as an adult. Ingrid was my babysitter for several years and I owe much of who I became to her. She nurtured my love of sewing (I went into fashion design), began my introduction to yoga (regular practitioner and meditation), and the first appliance I bought for my first apartment was a bread maker because those days when I was allowed upstairs for a warm slice of fresh bread with jam were special ones. She was strict and kind, and never talked down. She talked of her time before coming to the US, her experiences during the war, with wise perspective that I try to carry with me. I’ll never be able to tell her how much she shaped me and thank her, but years later I hope it’s a nice reminder to know that she made such a difference and is still remembered so fondly.  -kristin m. To Ingrid’s family,
I remember Ingrid from Good Shepherd, all the way back to when she was the Vacation Bible School director when my children were young.  She always had a smile on her face.  Her son, Peter, was our paper boy when we lived on Clark Street.  Our thoughts and prayers go to your whole family.  We wish you peace and comfort at this difficult time.
