Elizabeth A. “Liz” Mowery, 89

Elizabeth A. “Liz” Mowery, 89, of Columbia, passed away peacefully at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. She was born in Marietta in 1925 to the late John A. Jr. and Lydia A. (Fuhrman) Snyder. Liz was the wife of the late Lloyd W. Mowery who passed away in 1998.
Liz worked as an Accounts Payable clerk for Watt & Shand Department Store for 23 years until her retirement in 1982.
She was a faithful, active, and charter member of the Hempfield United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. She also belonged to the Christian Business and Professional Women’s Club. Liz enjoyed spending time walking and reading.
Liz is survived by 2 grandchildren: Faye M. Haas, of Harrisburg and Kate Haas Nelson, wife of Gregg, of Plainfield, NJ. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lisa Winner Haas, wife of Earl, of Harrisburg. In addition to her parents and husband, Liz is preceded in death by her son, Stephen L. Mowery; and 2 siblings: Florence Mull and James H. Snyder.

A Funeral Service for Liz will be held at 11AM on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received at the church from 10-11AM. Interment will follow at Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Liz’s memory to the Memorial Fund of the Hempfield United Methodist Church at the above address or to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
