Elizabeth A. “Liz” Mowery, 89

Elizabeth A. “Liz” Mowery, 89, of Columbia, passed away peacefully at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. She was born in Marietta in 1925 to the late John A. Jr. and Lydia A. (Fuhrman) Snyder. Liz was the wife of the late Lloyd W. Mowery who passed away in 1998.
Liz worked as an Accounts Payable clerk for Watt & Shand Department Store for 23 years until her retirement in 1982.
She was a faithful, active, and charter member of the Hempfield United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. She also belonged to the Christian Business and Professional Women’s Club. Liz enjoyed spending time walking and reading.
Liz is survived by 2 grandchildren: Faye M. Haas, of Harrisburg and Kate Haas Nelson, wife of Gregg, of Plainfield, NJ. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lisa Winner Haas, wife of Earl, of Harrisburg. In addition to her parents and husband, Liz is preceded in death by her son, Stephen L. Mowery; and 2 siblings: Florence Mull and James H. Snyder.
A special thanks to Maggi Pavelko and her family and Tom and Judy Kile and their family for all of their love and support.
A Funeral Service for Liz will be held at 11AM on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received at the church from 10-11AM. Interment will follow at Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Liz’s memory to the Memorial Fund of the Hempfield United Methodist Church at the above address or to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Liz was a true saint. She lived her life daily, serving her God and sharing her love, wisdom and understanding of His Word with everyone she came in contact with. because of her sharing these blessings with all those in her bible study we came to know and love God also. having Liz in my life was the greatest blessing God has given me

“Libby” was my favoarite cousin and I loved her dearly and will miss her terribly. We go way back to childhood together. Her passing will leave a big hole in this world.

The “Kimmich” family has always known “Liz” as Aunt Betty. Aunt Betty is now in heaven with my grandmother “Mim”. Aunt Betty will be missed by many. Rest in peace and may God Bless you.
