I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Doug’s family. He was a wonderful friend and musician, always cheerful and upbeat. I have many good memories from Beach Haven and later in Vermont. A gift to us all who will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,
Joan Haas

My name is Arlene Barnhart.  I worked for Farmers First Bank (then Susquehanna)for over 20 years and retired in 1999. For many of those years, I had the pleasure of working with Doug as a client of Sutter House Publishing.
He was a delight to work with, never complaining, no matter how many changes we made to our requests (usually at the last moment).  He was a great talent with both artistry and words. Particularly words, often culled from an astounding vocabulary. He truly loved words and never missed an opportunity to share a new one. During this period, Farmers First Bank’s Annual Reports had Doug’s fingerprints all over them. He took great pride in making everything better.
I always enjoyed his great humor and wit and felt privileged to call him friend. He spoke often and lovingly of his family so it is with sincerest sympathy that I send my condolences for the loss of one of the truly good guys.

Brock and Kaylee,
Our heartfelt sympathy is sent to you and your entire Family.   Garvin and I are truly sorry for your loss.

So sorry and surprised to learn of Doug’s passing. We chatted often when we met on the streets of Lititz, at the post office, or at McElroy’s. Conversations were always about our boys who were scouting friends in troop 44. Marsha and I extend our prayers and sympathy to his family.

I am very sorry for your loss. I have known Doug for approximately 25 years in the printing industry. I worked as a CSR at Continental Press as he was my customer with Farmers First Bank(which eventually became Susquehanna Bancshares) and worked on one book with him. I went to a couple of book club meeting as well as the annual awards banquets in Philadelphia. We were in contact again and looking forward to working with him on Jay Chryst’s autobiography. I always enjoyed Doug’s humor and wit as well as his great knowledge of the publishing industry and book production. Dear Family,
I wanted to send my condolences for Doug’s passing. I worked with Doug for many years as a printing vendor to him. About 10- 15 years ago we worked together alot. I was often in his office talking with him on various subjects other than printing. I always enjoyed talking to him. I learned alot about many things, book publishing included. He loved to teach. He shared many a story about his family and friends and his band all of which he really loved. I am sorry that he is gone, he will be greatly missed. Doug had given me his Bloody Mary recipe and I will locate that and have one in his memory. Take care.

In Sympathy,
Lori Gochnauer
