David L. Johnston, 41

David L. Johnston, 41, having run his race and finishing well after doctors recently discovered advanced melanoma, was called home by The Lord on Friday, July 13, 2012, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO,.  A resident of Lititz, he most recently lived in Fort Collins, CO. David’s favorite quote was “Don’t count the days, make the days count”.

David earned his B.S. in criminology from Millersville University and two M.S. degrees in the area of strength conditioning from Georgia Southern University and the University of Wisconsin. David served as a strength and conditioning coach at Stonybrook, Campbell and La Verne Universities, before joining the athletic department staff at Colorado State University last fall. He worked with the cross country, track and field and women’s golf programs, and in May David joined the Ram’s football staff. Possessing a high intensity for his job, David “lived” the achievements of the students and athletes. The entire football team and coaching staff visited David at his hospital bed last week to show their respect for a coach who was committed to their wellbeing.

Born in Nyack, NY, he was the son of the Rev. Dr. Roy N., Jr. and Carol L. Owens Johnston of Landisville. David’s family also includes his sisters, Lorenda Richards, Lititz, and Rebecca, wife of Wilson Lopez, Landisville, and his nieces, Desiree Richards and Alivea Lopez. David spent his early years in Malaysia and Thailand with his parents who were missionaries in Asia. The family moved back to the states for his senior year so he could play football and graduate from Johnson High School in Gainesville, GA.

The Funeral will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, July21, 2012, at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster, PA, 17601, with The Rev. Carl S. McGarvey officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to the time of service. Interment in Witness Park, Lititz, PA. To send the family online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. Charles F. Condolences to the Family

I hired David Johnston as my strength and conditioning ,   and running back coach at a small college in kentucky. I observed him to be a man of the upmost integrity , class , character, honor, and loyalty. I considered him to be a true brother in the faith and someone that earned my respect by the genuine and consistent manner that he lived his daily walk. There is no doubt in my mind that Heaven is his home and that Jesus Christ was glorified through David Johnston’s life. I was saddened by the news of his death and that I did not know about it sooner , however I celebrate his life as David was a true Champion and a Man of God.

Roy, Carol and family,

There are no words to express how sorry we are to hear of David’s passing. Please know that you have all been in my heart since hearing the news. I will be praying for you today as you celebrate David’s life. Hugs to you all..

Dear Roy and Carol,

Joann and I send our love and Christian sympathy at the passing to heaven of David.

It was good to read the posted eulogy. What a fine man doing good things that really mattered in young people’s lives in CO. Like his Mom and Dad.

David’s life in Asia and education here in the States made him an international "MK." He was part of a remarkable contingent of young people who have made incredible contributions here. May God give you both wonderful memories of David’s contributions as He brings comfort.

Roy, thanks for your friendship at Gordon so long ago. I recall with fondness our time there and the meetings along the way. So sorry we are separated by years and miles. But a friend indeed.

With our best wishes,
Joann and Art Gay

We want to tell you that we will be praying for you that the Good Lord bring to you the peace that passes all understanding for who can understand the whys of such happenings but for God. We love you. Many hugs to you both as we our hearts go out to you.

Love in Him,
Mary Lou & Duddy Brinkofski
