Bradley Jon Smith, 48

August 10, 2016

Bradley Jon Smith of Annapolis, MD and Manheim, PA slipped away Wednesday morning at Brethren Village. He was 48 and died from a stroke caused by his treatment for cancer. He was the beloved son of Kenneth and Brenda Smith of Manheim.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, John and Orpha Bauer, and his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Lola Smith.
Brad graduated from Manheim Central High School and Drew University in Madison, NJ, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
As a youth, he was active in scouting, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
Until his illness, Brad worked for JMA Solutions as an administrative contractor at the Washington, DC offices of the Federal Aviation Administration. Prior to that he worked at the FAA offices in Atlantic City, NJ.
He adored the family’s black lab, Abbey, and gave her long walks whenever he visited.
Brad loved literature and was an avid reader. He loved crab cakes, corn fritters, family vacations on Long Beach Island, NJ, and sailing the Chesapeake Bay with his father on their sailboat “Forever Young”.
In addition to his parents, Brad is survived by his sister, Lisa Anne Dyer and his nieces Poppy Cordelia and Tatiana Skye Dyer, all of London.
He was a kind and peaceful person, earning the love and respect of those who knew him. In reference to one of his most beloved authors, Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse Five), we hope wherever he is, everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.
A special thank you goes to Dr. Rodney Taylor of the University of Maryland Medical Center and to the staff at Brethren Village and Asera Care, who treated him with great compassion during his last few weeks.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave, Annapolis, MD 21403.

Sail on Brad, Sail On.

I went to MCHS with Brad and we spent many hours together our Senior year, walking the halls and after school.  He was a very kind and unique soul and always had a smile for me.  I remember him helping me fix a very bad new wave hair emergency.  Ha!
I’ve thought of him often over the years and am very sorry to hear of his passing.  Rest, my friend . <3

I wasn’t lucky enough to see Brad in recent years, but we were close in college and I will never forget his compassion, humor, intelligence, and love. I sailed with him, read with him, traveled with him, and listened to Dylan with him. His family was always kind to me and it is no surprise they produced s man as great as he was.

I am so sad to hear about the loss of such a great person. Brad and I worked together (we actually sat about 2 feet from each other). He was smart, kind, funny and knew more about Apple than anyone. We often spoke about his sister, nieces, and his parents. I am so blessed that I got a chance to know him. I will miss him.

I worked with Bradley at the FAA for a few years. I enjoyed talking with him. He was quiet, but once I got him talking we would have some great conversations. He was so very smart and had a great sense of humor. I have been praying for him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. He was a good guy. He will be missed
