William R. Crawford, 71

William R. Crawford, 71, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, July 25, 2025.
He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Robert S. and Pauline Minnie (Dommel) Crawford.
William graduated from J. P. McCaskey High Scholl, Class of 1972, and served in the US Navy with Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity, Naval Station in Norfolk, VA, obtaining the rank of Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class. He received the Navy Achievement Medal.
Following the Navy, William worked for the US Postal Service beginning at Harrisburg Pike performing various jobs and ending his career as postmaster at the Rohrerstown Road Post Office, retiring in 2018.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, biking, archery, fishing, and hunting. William was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Lancaster Conservancy, a life member of the NRA and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, as well as member of Green Hill Sportsmen’s Association and Lancaster Bicycle Club.
He was an incredibly generous man, giving of his time and money. He was strong-willed, highly organized, and instrumental in the neighborhood campfire.
William’s family includes his daughter, Sheena R. Crawford of Buffalo, NY, sister Sherree Rumberger, wife of Joseph of Lancaster, PA, brother Robert S. Crawford, husband of Kerry of Parkesburg, PA, sister Dr. Ruth Fisher, wife of Rob of Pequea, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother Ray S. Crawford.

I knew Bill in High School. We became friends working at the postal sevice together. Bill was a good man! Bill was very generous and I always enjoyed our conversations together. I will always have good lasting memories of my friend Bill.

I am so very sorry for your loss. We live in Bill’s neighborhood, and I would see him occasionally when I walked past his house with my pup. I did not really know him, but we always said a few kind words, or at least a wave hello. Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss.
