Oh the memories…
Bill (Or Willie as he was known by friends in his teenage years) was an inspiratinal figure to me as I grew up.
Countless hours cruising in his ’68 GTO, windows down and 8-track blaring, he gave meaning to the melody…”and I get rubber in all 4 gears” (to this day I insist on a car with a manual transmission).
We were just trying to figure out life in the context of that strong Grace Mennonite Youth Group that included Sunday afternoons at Reiff’s.
I felt a strong kinship to the Gerhart family. As a kid I was in awe of Bill’s dad coming to church with the longest chain of perfect attendance Sunday School pins I had ever seen. The twins were a chip off the old block… faithful, loyal, hardworking and dedicated. Mother Mabel put the fear of God in me at age 12 through the class she taught at church. Decades later, through circumstances only God could author, I ended up hiring her grandson (Bill’s son Dave) as a worship leader in the church I pastored.
We lost touch more recently, but whenever we would connect we could instantly reherse the fun and crazy times we had a teens. I marveled at how Bill’s gentle spirit would draw so many into his web of love that was sourced in his devotion to Christ.
As long as I live I will hold onto our shared memories, and then I will meet him again and we’ll go for another ride—this time among the stars. When we do I am sure he will say to me, as he always did…
“No Craig, I’ll drive.”
Love and Prayers to the extended family,
Craig (and Sally) Bishop

My heart hurts hearing this news. I worked with Bill at Cardone in Phila. He always had a smile, kind words, and a gift of making you laugh. I pray you’ll take comfort in knowing where he is and Who he’s with. R.I.P. Bill you will be missed by many.

My fond memories of Bill is him driving kids around to go hang out at Reiff’s.  He was a real Christian witness to me.  I appreciated him and those great memories.

Dear MaryAnn and Kids, and Marilyn and Phil, I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing.  We keep saying we know where we are going but its so hard once they go.  We know we will see them again but it still hurts not to see them now.   I keep remembering all those good times when the kids were little that we spent together when Oben Bible Church was just getting started. Happy Days.  Love you guys.  I will be praying for all of you.  God Bless you.

Dear Mary Ann and Family,
So sorry to hear of the death of Bill.  It sounds so much like similar circumstances happened that also happened when Ed died in 2017.  I sincerely pray that you will find God’s peace and comfort to be sufficient for you and your family.  Bill was an example of Christian character and leadership all the years you were at Grace Bible Churh.  I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Gerhart Family, I am very sad to hear of Bill’s passing. I grew up with Bill and Phil and went to Grace Mennonite Church with them. After their father died, my dad took them under his wing of sorts and took them on many fishing outings with him and I remember all the fun times with Bill and our youth group Sunday afternoons after church. Of course, Bill was the only one with a car, so we would pile in and have good times together. We lived the next block over and went to NP together even though they were 2 years older I will always remember Bill’s friendship and kindness.

Dear Gerhart family, having the opportunity to know people like Bill  is a reminder to us all that our love for God and people has a lasting effect on others. Bill was one of the kindest men I’ve known and I know he will be greatly missed. I think if him often, especially when the bluebirds are living in the bluebird house he made for me.
