Vincent James Lattanzio, 62

January 09, 2015

Vincent James Lattanzio, 62, of Willow Street, PA, passed away on Friday, January 9th, 2015 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center after a brief bout with acute myeloid leukemia. Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 2nd, 1952, he was the son of the late Vincent and Josephine (Malandra) Lattanzio. He was married to Rebecca Harnish Lattanzio for forty years on December 21st, 2014.
Vince grew up in Maple Shade, NJ and graduated from Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in 1970. He graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a bachelor’s degree in theology in 1974. He moved to Lancaster, the hometown of his beloved wife, Becky, in 1974 where he was fond of working on his in-law’s family farm. He studied Cabinet Making at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, graduating with the class of 1978. Vince started his career in banking at Commonwealth National Bank and joined Fulton Financial Advisors in 1988. He was a certified employee benefits specialist and later earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner. Vince was a senior vice president/manager of Charitable and Endowment Services at Fulton Bank at the time of his death.
Vince proudly served as treasurer of the Thaddeus Stevens Foundation Board of Directors and enjoyed participating in activities that supported the school. He was a member of Willow Street United Church of Christ, Willow Street, PA where he served on the finance committee.
The son of Italian immigrants, Vince treasured his recent trips to Italy during which he connected with cousins and visited his parents’ hometowns in Abruzzo. He studied Italian diligently over the last several years and was able to speak it fluently. He was a member of the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society. Vince enjoyed going to Phillies games, playing ice hockey, cooking Italian food, and spending time in one of the special places of his childhood, Long Beach Island, New Jersey. His life was enriched by time spent as a Cub Scout leader, baseball coach, and ice hockey coach over the years. He especially delighted in spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Annie Lattanzio Hale (Paul), of Lancaster, Kate Lattanzio of Spartanburg, SC, Charlie Lattanzio of Oakland, CA, and Joe Lattanzio of New Orleans, LA. Vince is survived by three granddaughters, Julia, Sophia, and Emelia Hale of Lancaster, PA, his sister and brother- in-law, Edith and James Hanahan of Warminster, PA, and his brother-in-law, Thomas Hartzell of Burlington Township, NJ. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins who were dear to him. He was preceded in death by sisters, Angela Lattanzio and Phyllis Hartzell and a brother, Gus Lattanzio.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center for the expert, compassionate care provided to Vince during his illness.
A Visitation will be from 10-12 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 12 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Willow Street United Church of Christ, 2723 Willow Street Pike North, Willow Street, PA 17584 with Rev. Ron Bohannon officiating. Interment will be at New Danville Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Vince’s memory to The Thaddeus Stevens Foundation 740 East End Avenue Lancaster, PA 17602 or the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic 223 North Lime Street Lancaster, PA 17602.

Dear Lattanzio Family,
Words can do little to ease your pain, but I want reiterate the many thoughts of what a great man and contributor to all that’s good in the wrld that Vince was. We met yearly, having to do with banking business, and visiting and being in his presence was always the highlight of my trip. My condolances to you all.  I know a part of him lives on in each of you.

Dear Becky;
My mother just told me of Vince’s passing. I hurt for you! We lost my wife Tracy last year, who also passed away after a very brief fight with Acute Myeloid Lukemia. It’s been so many years since I’ve seen you both, but when I heard of your loss, I just needed to tell you how my heart goes out to you and your family.  Dave Marchini

sDear Lattanzio Family,
It was my sincere pleasure and privilege to know Vince as a good friend as well as a student.  He was an exceptional man of good character who was true to his family and his heritage.  I truly enjoyed our lunch get togethers and chats about Italy.  He leaves a void which cannot be filled.
My prayers and condolences,

Dear Becky and kids, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Vince. He and I worked together at Fulton for about 19 years, actually he was one of the 3 people that interviewed me for my position in the Retirement Services department. He was so great to work with. He played first base on the Fulton Co-Ed softball team and was a great hitter.  He was an all around great guy and will truly be missed.

I would like the family to know how sorry I am of Vince’s passing.  I have known Vince professionally for over 25 years serving on the Endowment Fund Committees of two local nonprofits which Fulton Bank and Vince were responsible for. I had the utmost regards for Vince as do so many other investment professionals in the Lancaster community. I had a great working relationship with Vince built on many years of trust and confidence and I will greatly miss him…as will his many clients that he served so well. My very best thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

So sorry to hear of Vince’s untimely passing. I worked with him at Fulton Financial Advisors for 10 years until 2008 but haven’t seen him since. Vince was one of the ‘good guys’ there. I couldn’t say that for many others there unfortunately. He was always a strong, positive example of what a business man, community leader, and family man should be. My wife and I were remembering recently the fun we had with him and you in Cancun when we climbed the pyramid in Coba together and me with my arm in a sling in 2007. Thoughts and prayers to you and the family. Tom Downing

Becky, Vince worked with me way back in the early seventies as my helper on the Watt & Shand delivery truck.  He’s the kind of guy you wanted to be around:  gentle, quiet, helpful, funny and always smiling!  It came as no surprise to me when we ran into him many years later at the Lancaster Ice Rink where I think he was just beginning to volunteer.  My son met him even more recently as a fellow banker.  Will never forget this gentleman of a man!  May God’s blessings be with you and all your family.
