Verne Wesley Weidman, Jr., 80

October 15, 2025

Verne Wesley Weidman, Jr., age 80, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Lititz, PA, after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma in May 2025. Verne was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 14, 1945, to V. Wesley Weidman and Esther Brigge Weidman. He grew up in Talleyville, DE, and graduated from Brandywine High School. He was a 1968 engineering graduate of PMC Colleges (now Widener University).

Verne worked for Raytheon on the LM S-band amplifier, which transmitted video of astronauts on the moon. He spent 23 years with Unisys/Tredyffrin, helping to shrink 32 cards into a single processor chip. Later, he wrote software for networking computers and pharmaceutical applications.

He was most happy to marry Carol and loved being married (his words). Verne designed and built their home near Marshallton, PA, where they lived for over 30 years. Retirement in 2010 enabled Verne and Carol to continue their love of travel, which included extended trips to Europe and U.S. National Parks, as well as numerous ski trips out West. Winters were spent on Siesta Key, Florida.

After retirement, Verne couldn’t wait to pursue his passions for American history and engineering. He especially enjoyed volunteering with fellow retirees at the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center in West Chester and working in many capacities with the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates and other Chester County historical preservation groups—until he and Carol moved to Moravian Manor Communities, a retirement community in Lititz, PA, in August 2023. Verne enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to engage in social activities, resident committee work, political activism, and simply enjoying the company of new friends.

Verne is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol; his sisters, Emily Weidman, Nancy Ortiz (Tony), and Frances Weidman-Dahl (Pete); nieces Rachel, Allison, Melanie, and Sonia; nephew Alex; and seven grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his nephew, Eric. He loved them all very much.

At Verne’s request, a memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Glioblastoma Research Organization (www.gbmresearch.org), a non-profit organization raising awareness and funds for new global, cutting-edge research to find a cure for Glioblastoma.
