Thomas St. John Vaughan, 52

July 16, 2015

Thomas St. John Vaughan, 52, of Lancaster, PA, died unexpectedly at home on July 16, 2015. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of Marguerite “Peg” Swartz Vaughan Adams and the late Thomas Brayton Vaughan, Jr., and the step-son of the late Dr. Laurence J. Adams, Sr.
John was a 1981 graduate of Manheim Township High School. He then attended Arizona State University where he served as president of the ASU chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He graduated with a degree in marketing in 1986.
John began his marketing career as a regional sales manager for Armstrong in Columbus, OH. He moved back to Phoenix AZ to become an account executive for Galaxy Marketing Food Brokerage, a wholesale food distributor. He then took a position with Purina Pet Care working out of Los Angeles, CA. At Purina he was responsible for sales and marketing for the southwest region. He received several Purina sales awards including Purina’s coveted “Excellence in Business” award in 1997.
In 1998 John chose to leave the business of marketing to pursue an education career teaching business. In 2002 he earned a Master’s degree in Education from ASU. While a graduate student he received the “Student Teacher of the Year” award. He then taught business at Mesquite High School in Gilbert, AZ.
John was an avid sports fan. While traveling for business he would often make time to attend the local major league baseball or NBA game or get in a round of golf at the local club. In Lancaster, he could often be seen behind home plate at a Barnstormers’ game. His love of sports was obvious in his enjoyment of sports’ memorabilia.
Surviving in addition to his mother are 2 children: Ashley Nicole Vaughan and Brandon Thomas Vaughan both of Fountain Hills, AZ; a sister, Marguerite Axe, wife of Anthony of Ridgeland, SC; and nephews David Reidenbach and Michael Axe.
He is also survived by six step-siblings: Dr. Laurence J. Adams, Patricia A. Smith, James R. Adams, Rev. Dennis M. Adams, Dr. J. Brian Adams, Mary C. Brett, and twelve step-nieces and nephews.
A viewing will take place from 1-2 PM with a Funeral Service to follow on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543.
