Thomas J. Cox, 82

Thomas J. Cox, 82, of Towanda & Lancaster, PA passed peacefully in his sleep at 8PM on Monday, October 14, 2013 at his daughter’s home.
Born April 11, 1931, he was the son of the late A. B. and Helen Cox of Towanda, PA, and brother of Mary Naczi and Patricia Shumaker.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rita Ann (Farr), and his six children Helen Levering, of Lititz, Rita Sasso, wife of Richard, of Lititz, Thomas Cox Jr., of Monroeton, Charles Cox, of Leola, Cynthia Croom, wife of Herbert, of Lancaster, and Michael Cox, of New York City, six grandchildren David Cox, Jake Sasso, Amy O’Rielly, Amanda Levering, Theresa Trueheart and Matthew Levering and his four great grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, Tom and Rita baptized, raised and educated their six children at St. Anthony of Padua Parish. A lover of nature, Tom was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed playing cards and sports like softball and badminton. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8PM with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:45PM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory 3110 Lititz Pk. Lititz, PA. Interment will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 East Orange St. Lancaster, PA 17602 on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11AM with The Rev. James O’Blaney C.Ss.R. as Celebrant, beginning with an hour of Visitation from 10-11am.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to his hometown parish of St. Peter & Paul, 106 Third St., Towanda, PA 18848, where he was an active Parishioner.

I am an old friend of Michael’s. He has been one of my closest friends for nearly 20 years and I have gotten to know your extended family who have come to visit NYC over the years. Rita and family, So sorry for your loss. I am part of the John Mowery family who were your neighbors in Landisville. Many times you and Tom would come to our house and visit and perhaps play cards. I know Helen Marie and Rita since they were babies but then you moved to Lancaster. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your memories sustain you at this sorrowful time.
