July 03, 2024
Sylvia Jane (Neagley) Fahnestock passed away peacefully at Moravian Manor in Lititz, Pennsylvania on July 3, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on January 21, 1944, in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
Sylvia was a graduate of Springfield high school, East Stroudsburg University and took graduate courses at Rutgers University in N.J. Sylvia dedicated her life to serving others through her work as a Health and Physical Education teacher, a Motivational Speaker for Pritikin and later serving varied roles as a Social Worker.
Sylvia was a woman of deep faith and served in her church as a Stephens Minister. She found strength and solace in her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was known for her strong and compassionate nature and her interest in listening to the life stories of others. Despite her long and courageous battle with Camptocormia and Parkinson’s Disease, she remained actively engaged in life and her community.
Sylvia’s personal interests were varied and vibrant. She was an avid sewer and had a keen eye for fashion. She enjoyed playing tennis, tandem bike riding, kayaking, motorcycle riding, playing the flute and spending time with her pet cat. These activities reflected her love for life and her constant pursuit of new experiences.
Sylvia is survived by her spouse John R. Fahnestock, a daughter Kendra E. Durdock (married to Dale), and a son Michael J. Gallagher (married to Aimee) as well as a sister Elaine A. Parvin. She was preceded in death by her parents Ross Linn and Isabel (Steever) Neagley and her brother Captain Ross L. Neagley.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for August 10th 1pm-3pm at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, Pennsylvania. Sylvia’s life was a testament to her enduring spirit and commitment to her family and friends. Sylvia will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

For those who had a chance to know Sylvia, their lives will be enriched. We never know what slivers of truth touch our lives from those who pass by us.
