Steven B. Jones, 66
Steven B. Jones, 66, of West Hempfield Township, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Monday, August 5, 2024. Steve and his wife, Shari L. Jones, would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on September 1st. Steve was the best husband and friend that Shari could ever dream of. They loved each other very much. Their 5 golden retrievers they owned over the years gave him so much love and joy!
Steve was born in Lancaster, son of the late James R. and Faye A. (Bradley) Jones. Steve put his life in God’s hands at an early age and he gained strength and wisdom as a follower of Jesus. Growing up he attended the former Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lancaster City with his family. He later became a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church until he started attending LCBC with his wife about 10 years ago.
He graduated from Penn Manor High School, Class of 1977, where he was on the golf team and pitched for the baseball team. He was very proud of the 1975-76 Penn Manor Baseball teams; they won the Lancaster Lebanon League 2 years in a row. Steve’s high school friends became family and the bond they had together was like no other. Salute!
After high school, he drove truck for Landis Haines for 5 years delivering floor coverings locally. In 1984 he worked with his parents at Jones Homes, the family business. He was the job supervisor, an excellent carpenter; drywaller, cabinet and trim installer. He built decks, sheds, pergolas, just to name a few. He was always willing to help friends with projects. The next 25 years was spent working at Swedish Motors where he helped with garage/property maintenance and car detailing. After many back operations, he retired and started driving cars at America’s Auto Auction in East Petersburg. He made new and dear friends wherever he worked, and he deeply cherished those friendships. Steve was all about bringing people together and creating an environment where fantastic and fun memories would be made.
Hunting deer and turkey in Potter County was Steve’s passion. His father started taking him to Deer Camp with his best friend, Jim, along with his Uncle Roger when they were 16. They never missed a year since. He also cared about the environment and deer management.
He was the assistant golf coach at Manheim Central High School for 2 years and he was the pitching coach for Marietta/Maytown Youth League and Elizabethtown Junior Midget League from 2002-2006.
If you knew anything about Steve, you knew he was a “huge” fan of the Green Bay Packers and attended dozens of games all over the country. He also loved watching the Baltimore Orioles, Wisconsin Badgers, and any other sporting event that he could watch with friends. He often hosted them on the back patio surrounded by the beautiful flower gardens he created.
Steve’s family will receive guests from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, followed by a celebration of his life at 6:30 pm with The Rev. Jason B. Perkowski officiating, on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543.
Kindly consider a contribution in Steve’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 22324, New York, NY 10087.

Steve was a good friend and neighbor to my husband, Dave, and then to both of us. Steve was always ‘up’, even the last time we saw him at the cancer center. He will be greatly missed by both of us. See you on the other side Steve!

A nicer person does not exist. Steve made himself part of your life by showing genuine interest in you. When you talked with him, Steve would look at you and really listen to what you were saying. Steve asked you questions about your specific life (your job, your family, your activities) which made you feel special. Also, Steve was friendly with everyone. He had a knack in finding a positive in a negative person and focusing on that positive. In our 55-year friendship, I never once remember Steve speaking poorly about someone. Steve was my best man at my wedding, and Steve was the best man I have ever known. I considered Steve my best friend in life and I will miss him dearly.

Steve is a great guy I worked with at American’s Auto Auction. He directed our sales lane during the Auction Sale. I really liked talking sports with Steve and enjoyed seeing him wear numerous Green Bay Packers hats and tee shirts because growning up, I was also a Packer fan. The first thing I would say to Steve when I saw him was “Lets Go Comets”. Steve was such a friendly guy and talked with everyone. I miss our political conversations because we both had similar views. Everyone at the auction miss him dearly. Charles Roehm
