Stephen S. Fisher, 92

December 18, 2023

Stephen S. Fisher, a resident of Willow Street, PA died peacefully in his home on December 18, 2023.

Steve was born to Amos H. and Naomi S. Fisher in Ronks, PA on June 21, 1931. He was born to Old Order Amish and was one of 15 children. He attended school through 8th grade. He served in the U.S. Army and spent 15 months in Korea during the Korean War. Upon returning from Korea, he began work building silos up and down the east coast. While working as a foreman, he realized his gift of leadership and passion to manage people and felt a strong desire to consider having his own business someday. While working on the road, he met Jean Erb and knew this was the girl he was going to marry one day.

In 1954, he began working as a steel rigger for High Steel Structures. Two years later in 1956, he married Jean just as he predicted. Seven years later, with his wife’s support, he decided to start his own business in their two-car garage. He began fabricating fire escapes with Jean’s assistance. This was the start of something bigger than they could have ever imagined. By 1964, they were ready to purchase property and make their mark in the steel business with S.S. Fisher Welding Company. Ten years later, in 1974, they were ready to expand into something more and S.S. Fisher Steel Corporation was established. The first big job for Fisher Steel was the Lancaster County Courthouse which launched them into many future years of success. In 1976 Steve purchased a farm across the street from his business in preparation for further expansion. That expansion took place in 1988 when S.S. Fisher Steel built a 70,000 square foot state of the art fabrication shop.

Steve retired in 1993 when he sold his steel company to the late Steven Powell. Steve and Jean enjoyed retirement for more than 20 years in their home in Sarasota, Florida before Jean passed away in 2004. They were married for 48 years. Steve remarried in 2009 and remained married until death to Rosene (Hoffer) Fisher. Steve published an autobiography in June, 2021 entitled, “Driven.” This was the final item on his bucket list.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Rosene, are two sons Steve Fisher, Jr. married to the late Lisa (Frackman) Fisher of Pequea, PA; Kurt D. Fisher married to Katherine (Martin) Fisher of Willow Street, PA; and his two daughters, Patti L. Reiter married to the late Gary Reiter of Wickenburg, AZ; and Tammy J. (Fisher) Alexander married to James M. Alexander of Trout Creek, MT.; three step daughters: Karen Bower married to Jim of Harrisburg, Sheri Sell married to Mark of Lititz and Trina Floyd married to Brad of Lancaster; 8 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren.

Steve was an active Mason since 1959. Additionally, he was a member of the Veterans Association. He was also a member of the Grace Community Church in Willow Street, PA.

Steve had a love of fishing, hunting, skeet shooting and golfing. In 1984, he was inducted into the Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame.

Family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA. 17584 from 4pm to 7pm. The Nine Hole Men’s Golf Association at Steve’s Palm Aire Country Club (Sarasota) extend our condolences. We saw Steve at a Palm Aire Wacky Wednesday dinner a few months ago.
I recall someone said during a round of golf with Steve, “You can tell he used to be a really good golfer.” That’s never been said of me. 🏌️‍♂️

Rosene and all Steve’s Family.
i am in Florida and just learned of Steve’s passing. What a great friend he was to me for so many years. Traveling, golfing, just being together. Lately I enjoyed his short book of the life he lived. I must send a note to his buddy Dave today as well. Since my retirement the 3 of us often just had a nice lunch together to look back on all the years.
He is in good hands now, “The Only Scars in Heaven are the Hands that Hold Him Now”!

Steve will be greatly missed by friends and family. You were always aware when Stevecwas in the room. It was my privilege to be Steve’s pastor for many years at Pequeachurch. I officiated at Jeans memorial service and at Steve’s marriage to Rosene. For several years Ann Marie and I had our own key to the condo in Sarasota. Steve was a man of his word and a great friend. So sorry Ann Marie are not able to be in attendance at the memorial service today as we are now back in Ontario. Praying that Gods presence will be felt by those in attendance. Steve will certainly live on in his lineage.

I read with fascination his book “DRIVEN”. It was compelling that I read it in one go.
What a self made professional he shone to be.
‘ETERNAL SUNSHINE SETTLES ON IT’S HEAD thus spake Oliver Goldsmith. How apt it is.
Let Peace be upon him.

I stepped off the plane to be met by my Uncles Steve and Eli. My Dad Jesse died in 1992 in Sarasota FL. I flew from Fairbanks AK. I cannot describe the wonderful heartfelt time with my uncles and aunts and Mom as we remembered and felt the deep goodbye. It was life changing for me. I went home and back to church. A real prodigal who came begging back. Forgiven. Baptized. Proclaiming. Thank you Uncle Steve for moving me.
