Stephen Lloyd Mowery, 62
Stephen Lloyd Mowery, 62, of Lancaster, went to be with his Lord on Friday evening, December 10th 2010, at Hospice of Lancaster. Born February 8, 1948 in Lancaster County, he was the son of Elizabeth A. (Snyder) Mowery and the late Lloyd W. Mowery. He was the husband of Kimberly Szalay- Mowery with whom he married on September 10, 1994.
Lance Corporal Stephen Mowery served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War from February 1966 to February 1969 and was awarded 3 Purple Hearts. After returning from the war, he was a roofer by trade. Stephen was a Charter member of Hempfield United Methodist Church. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and an active member of the Hubley Social Club. He enjoyed his family and volunteered his services at the Feathered Sanctuary Parrot Rescue finding, loving, and nurturing homes for displaced companion birds.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Faye Haas of Harrisburg, PA.
Friends may attend Stephen’s Celebration of Life held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory located at 414 East King St., Lancaster, PA on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Edward E. Barlow officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00PM until 2:00PM Interment will be at Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, PA. Kindly omit flowers. I was shocked to see Steve’s obit when we got back from vacation 12/18. I didn’t know he was ill. Please know that he is in my thoughts and prayers.
