Stephen D. Buchanan, 49
September 14, 2016
Stephen D. Buchanan, 49, of Lancaster, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, September 14. He was the loving husband of Kimberly (Shields) Buchanan, to whom he was married for 28 years.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Paul Buchanan of Lancaster and Susan (Knerr) McMullen of Columbia, PA. Steve was a graduate of Penn State University with an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an avid runner and had been currently training for a 200-mile relay race in New Hampshire this weekend. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother; he was known to many as “Dad”. He had a passion for life and was a man of integrity, being selfless and helping others in need before himself. He was a driven, hard-working and level-headed individual who was a mentor to many. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking with his family at Kelly’s Run and many other Pennsylvania state parks, as well as riding his motorcycle with his wife Kim. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and also enjoyed reading about presidential history. He was a longtime member of Lancaster Alliance Church, where he met his wife Kim while in high school. Steve was very involved with the youth of the church and traveled with them on many missions trips. Steve was a partner in his own Lancaster-based business, Summit Technology Consulting Group, which he started in 2007. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Kim, and parents Paul and Susan, he is survived by his three children: Ali, wife of Bill Patton of Elizabethtown, PA; Alex Buchanan and Andrew Buchanan, both of Lancaster, PA; one granddaughter, Aria Patton. He is also survived by three brothers: Tony Dastra, fiancé of Kristine; Vince Dastra, husband of Jessica; Andy Buchanan, husband of Carol.
Memorial services will be held Monday, September 19 at 1:00 pm at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster, PA. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of his memorial service at the church. Interment will be held privately.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen Buchanan Memorial Fund for Youth Ministries Missions Trips c/o Lancaster Alliance Church at the above-listed address.

Yes, Steve was always level-headed and hard-working. He was always there to listen and to help me think through hard times. He comes calm cool and collected; expressing sincere concern and support, while still being able to challenge me to maturity.
I will miss him.
I’m sure you, Kim, Ali, Alex, and Andrew are crushed. I pray that his love and Legacy lives on, as I trust it will in all of you and in all of the lies that he touched.

Dear Kim and family,
It was with great sadness I read Steve’s obituary on Saturday morning. Steve was so helpful as our company considered using Summit’s services when we moved to Ephrata four years ago. Steve and I would have great conversations about life and business, I will miss his care and concern for our company. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you face the journey ahead.

Dear Buchanan Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Even though I only knew Steve through Summit Technology, I had considered him a good friend. He was definitely a man of integrity who was never ashamed to share his faith. During the years of knowing him we had many discussions on our Christian faith. His strong belief was truly refreshing an encourgament. May knowing he is with his Lord and Savior bring you peace during this difficult time.
My prayers are with you and your family.
