Condolences to the Family

May 21, 2017

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank our friends and family, and Sky’s friends, coworkers, classmates and school staff.
The love you showed us yesterday was such a comfort. The love you showed Sky yesterday reinforced everything we always knew her to be. The love all around us at Sky’s Celebration of Life service made one of the worst days of our lives, one of the most beautiful also. Our shared tears were cleansing.
Thank you all for everything you shared with us about Sky, all the stories and the laughter and tears. We know now that she will not be forgotten by anyone who knew her. She will live on in each of us.
Hers was a life well-lived. She taught us all so many lessons in acceptance, empathy and love in its purest form. She taught us all how to be better people. I pray those lessons will serve each and every one of us well for the rest of our lives.
To Sky’s friends: thank you for being there for her, and we love you. If there is anything you need – to talk, to cry, to scream – we are here. We know this is hard for you to understand, and hard to accept. If you happen to want a copy of any of her photos from the service yesterday, please just ask. We would be happy to email them to you, or print and mail them.
We would love if you would keep in touch with us. We are proud of you all.
And please, don’t ever suffer in silence – if you are struggling, please reach out for help. People care, probably more than you know. Everyone needs a hand sometimes, and it is a sign of strength, NOT weakness, to seek help.  If you feel sick, you see a doctor – this is no different. Sometimes a sympathetic ear can make all the difference in the world, and sometimes a professional can help teach you ways to cope with all the stress, confusion and pain that you have to deal with. No matter what you need – ask.
We choose to live on, for Sky. She was our miracle child, the light of our lives, and we will miss her and wish she was with us every day of the rest of our lives. We choose to be thankful for the 17 1/2 years we had with her, and to feel blessed for every single moment. We know it was time we maybe shouldn’t have been given, but we know in our hearts that our baby had a purpose to fulfill. She did that, and so much more.
It would be so easy to crawl into a hole and wallow in the pain. But Sky would hate that for us – she loved her family with all her heart, and she loved and respected her friends and teachers and coworkers. She hated to see anyone in pain, she hated to see anyone suffer.
If she never once took the easy road, why should we? We choose to follow her example now. Even if the ending to her story wasn’t one we would have chosen for her, the way she lived her life made her a true role model.
Always remember Sky – a daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, brother. She was a shoulder to cry on, a voice of reason, and always ready to make people laugh. She was a pure and beautiful (but lost) soul, who was able to bring so much peace to others, but none to herself.
We love you all, and are so very sorry for the great loss you have suffered. Just know that we are here for you, as Sky would have been if she could have been.

We cherish all the people that cross our paths, and Skylar was one of those souls. She was a sweet girl who was treasured and had a beautiful smile that touched my heart! I valued the moments I got to play pool with her and times I got to feed her soup. She is deeply missed. Our prayers are with the family as they all find healing and comfort in the precious memories they hold. Love, Rob and Beth

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Skylar will be missed at Sechan.  We are very sad and heartbroken.  We thoroughly enjoyed having her for the internship and were looking forward to her staying on after graduation. Skylar was very smart and picked up on things very easily.  She was a quiet, hardworker and had that beautiful smile.  I’m really glad I got to know her and work with her.  Your family will be in my prayers.
