Simon F. Groff, III
May 19, 2015
Simon F. Groff, III, of Hellam and formerly of Lancaster, passed away surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Simon F. Jr. and Leona G. Hubbs Groff. Simon had been a lifelong employee at Armstrong World Industries, working in the Tile Warehouse until his retirement in 2005.
Simon loved to go to Long Beach Island, NJ with his children and grandchildren. On the bays of the Jersey Shore, he was the Navigator on the crabbing vessel the Lu Lu Belle. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic cars and going to car shows. He was a loyal friend, and would always be the first one there if anyone needed help.
He is survived by his children: Tina M. married to Andrew H. Loose and Gary Groff, both of Lancaster; his grandchildren Dakota, Daulton, Jarod, Dylan, and Matthew; and his sister and best friend, Mary Lou married to Kenneth McDonald of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his companion, whom he considered “the love of his life, the one”, Sandi Cooper.
Services will be private, but when you think of him, smile and “Raise a Blue Can!”
In lieu of flowers and cards, please make memorial contributions in Simon’s name to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
