Shirley Ann “Miss Shirley” Abernathy, 82

Shirley Ann “Miss Shirley” Abernathy, 82, of Lancaster, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Conestoga View.
Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy M. (Cooper) Abernathy.

She was a member of Brightside Baptist Church and belonged to the Silver Threads group there. She also enjoyed going to the CAP Senior Center.

She was the owner for 7 years of Miss Shirley’s Grocery Store, located at the corner of E. End and S. Marshall Streets in Lancaster.

Miss Shirley was an avid crossword puzzler and rug hooker who created her own designs.

She was employed for a number of years by the Pentagon as an executive secretary, and also worked for the Lancaster County Police department as a dispatcher and at the Lancaster County Courthouse as a secretary.

She is survived by a son, Eric C. Abernathy of Lancaster; a sister, JoAnna Williams of Lancaster; two brothers: Anthony H. Clark of Lebanon and Ralph E. Clark, Jr of Lancaster; two grandchildren: Dae’ja Montano and Eric C. Abernathy, Jr of Lancaster; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Constance A. Clark, and three brothers: Timothy J., Kenneth, and Jacob A. Clark.

A Homegoing Service will be held at 2:00 Monday, March 17, 2014 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster with Rev. Louis A. Butcher, Jr officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
