Sharon Kay King, 60

March 06, 2024

Sharon Kay King, 60, of Lancaster, PA, passed on March 6, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer that didn’t define her life but instead strengthened her faith.

Sharon was born in Denver, PA to loving parents, Robert, and Irene Hummel. Sharon graduated from Garden Spot High School where she played softball and attended Millersville University. A strong believer in eating and exercising for life, Sharon most identified with her years spent working at Universal Athletic Club helping others stay healthy.

Sharon faced Thymoma cancer head on at the age of 30 and relied on her faith, family, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle to reach every milestone of her life without once asking why or complaining of the consequences. She felt blessed with each day having been able to witness the growth of her daughters, their graduations, their weddings, their first homes and most importantly the birth of six beautiful grandchildren.

Sharon was an inspiration to so many. She was your best friend immediately, and her smile told you everything you needed to know about her the moment you met her. Her Catholic faith was a huge part of her life, and she was blessed with the prayers and thoughts of so many during challenging times. She turned every prayer for her into a prayer for that person’s health and happiness. Sharon had a special place in her heart for St. John Neumann Church which helped her transition to Catholicism many years ago, and to St. Phillip Catholic Church which provided her sanctuary for daily mass.

Sharon married David King in October of 2015. The two were a match that could have only been created by God and they quickly lived a very full life to make up for any time lost. David and Sharon deeply loved each other and were inseparable.

Sharon was blessed with three beautiful daughters who carry with them her spirit of kindness – Christi, wife of Daniel Sekulski, Caroline, wife of Kevin Estabrook and Erika, wife of Cory Stoltz. She was their best friend and made sure that they were a part of her life every day.

Her favorite role was being “GiGi” to each of her six grandchildren, Reece, Austen, Shea, Ruby, Lucy and Bowen. They will always remember their GiGi for her smile and laughter and truly heartfelt love. Her seventh grandchild soon to arrive will fill such an important role as her birth will celebrate all our memories of Sharon and her spirit even without her physical presence.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by sister Jean and brother Gary, both of whom she loved so much.

Sharon’s family are carried on God’s wings knowing that she has been called home to the ultimate glory of God and a warmth that she so looked forward to feeling. Earth lost an angel, but we are so sure that she will carry that role with her in Heaven.

A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Sharon will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd. Lancaster, PA 17601, with Fr. Daniel F.X. Powell as Celebrant. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 11 AM. A private family burial to follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be considered in honor of Sharon for Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute (Lancaster General Health Foundation) Lancaster, PA, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center New York, NY or St. John Neumann Church, Lancaster, PA.

Dave
Wjike I never had the opportunity to meet Sharon in person, I feel I know her through all the stories Deborah shared with me over the years. I know you two had a beautiful life together and that something no one can ever take that away from you , not even death. love never dies. May all the beautiful memories you made together, bring smiles, and laughter to you and the days to come, hi Sharon would have wanted. God bless you and the entire family. You’re in my prayers.

Very sorry for your loss. I remember Sharon would open up her home for me in the mornings before the school bus came when my parents had to get to work. Very thankful for her and her daughters for being good neighbors.

My heart is broken to hear about the passing of Sharon. In the couple of days that I got to care for her in the hospital, I was blessed to have met her and her family. I loved hearing the stories of how she blessed those around her on a daily basis. Praying for your family at this time!

Dear Christi, Carey, and Erika,
What rejoicing in heaven and loss here on earth.  There is nothing I can say about your mom that you do not already know, cherish, and live out in your hearts.  But you can absolutely count me among the many souls she lifted up with her smile, enthusiasm, kind example, and unshakeable faith that overcame anything life threw her way and instead focused on the great blessings God gave her in all of you.
Know of my prayers for all of you and my incredible gratitude to God for giving us your mother to light our lives and remind us of our ultimate goal.  May the angels come to meet her….
With deepest condolences, Barbara

Our Catholic faith tells me that heaven has gained an angel. I never had the pleasure to met Sharon, but heard wonderful things about her. I was told she had a huge heart & was very caring and shared kindness to all. She lived a Christian life not only in her actions, but also expressing her love for our Lord & Savior. Rest In Peace🙏

Sharon was such a loving mother and good friend to so many. I will always remember her mothering my daughter Lizzie every time she slept over with her best friend Carey Beth. Sharon and I bonded through these girls friendship and love for each other. I remember Sharon through Universal and her commitment to fitness. She will be remembered as beautiful- inside and out- and I  believe she lives on in her three beautiful girls. Love to all three of you!❤️
