Sandra L. Young, 75

September 22, 2022

Sandra L. Young, 75, of Mountville, passed away after a brief illness, September 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late James C. and H. Marie (Kroh) Welshans. She was the devoted wife of Ray E. Young for over 38 years, until his passing in 2006.

During their years together, she and Ray enjoyed visiting friends and family and road trips to find new restaurants to try. They also enjoyed family vacations to Ocean City, MD.

Those who knew and loved her, knew she was a loving and caring person. As a homemaker, Sandy dedicated her life to her family, especially her children. Her children and their friends would refer to her as the “neighborhood mom”. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her delicious sand tarts and sugar cookies, which she sold at the Columbia Market House. Sandy enjoyed gardening and all types of crafts including coloring, jewelry making and sewing. She also volunteered her time with the West Hempfield Ladies Auxiliary.

Her love will live on in her children: Anthony S. Young, husband of Barbara A. Brown-Young of Columbia, Nicole M., wife of Matthew R. McClucas, of Columbia, and James C. Young of Mountville; grandchildren: Brittani, wife of Zachary Hollinger, Jordan Young, Alexis Gerfin, and Lakyn (Young) Shultz, great-grandchildren: Mitchell and Milana; and siblings: Anna Marie, wife of Richard S. Valentine of East Petersburg, and Mary Jane, wife of Stephen Rudy of Lancaster; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved Yorkie, Godiva. She was preceded in passing by her brother, John H. Welshans, and her Yorkie Izzy.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 11 AM until 12 PM with a funeral service following at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Interment to follow at Silver Spring Cemetery in Silver Spring, PA. Growing up as sisters, I have some of my fondest memories of my sister Sandy, we would spent our summer days in our spring house next to the Bushong Family Farm in Mountville. We would eagerly gather eggs from the hen houses and play hide-and-seek behind the tall bales of hay as we quietly giggled.
Through the years, I have thought of you often, even when the times we didn’t speak routinely, I knew you were always there. I remember the fun times we had shopping together, trying different local restaurants, and hanging out at Jamie’s puppy shop. These were truly enjoyable times and so much fun. I will never forget our deep discussions, continual laughter, and special moments at our family gatherings through the years.
Sandy, in my heart, you are a loving sister, a true angel with a caring and giving heart and soul.
May love and God continue to bless Jamie, Nicole, Tony, and your extended families. I am truly sorry for your loss. Sandy, it’s not goodbye….. someday we will be reunited in Heaven.
I love you so much Sandy! Rest in peace my dearest sister………… With Love, Mary Jane
