Rufus Thomas, 78
May 30, 2019
Rufus Thomas, son of the late Dave and Carrie (Wylie) Thomas was born on May 8, 1941 in McBee, South Carolina. Rufus was called from labor to reward on May 30, 2019.
Rufus was a joyful person. He loved making others smile and seeing them happy and having a good time. He also relished in telling funny stories about his “boys and girls” (stuffed animals) which were always hilarious to hear about.
Rufus loved his family and friends. He also was a huge fan of country music and really enjoyed singing. In his latter years, as his health began to decline and despite immobility, he never loss that joy!
Rufus is now rejoined with his parents; siblings: Dave Thomas, Jr., Sarah Mae Blackwell, Mae Ella Dixon, Lizzie Hough and his oldest daughter Debbie Ann Thomas.
Rufus leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Jacqueline Denise Thomas of Scotland Neck, NC; four grandchildren: LaTarsha Thomas-Debro, LaShanda Thomas Macon, Yakeem Jones and Forseia Thomas all of North Carolina; twelve great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Reverend James Thomas, Vernon Thomas (Ruth), Rosa Mae Hinton all of Lancaster, PA, and Carrie Mae Ewell of Ohio; a very special friend, Tonda Miller and generations of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Uncle Rufus we’ll always remember you as the singing, joyful person that you were. When I visited you in October of 2018, your health was failing but you never lost that great sense of humor you were known for. You are in a much better place now.
RIP Unc.
