He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959 with a bachelors of science degree in industrial engineering. Ron married Janet Marie Vietmeier on September 3, 1960. They have been married for 60 years.
After college, Ron and Janet moved to Johnstown, PA where he started as a foreman for Bethlehem Steel Corporation and eventually became Senior Manager of Production (1959-1985). He was a vital team member and helped to improve the quality of the mill’s operations, employee morale, and safety. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he excelled as a sales representative at Fabris Industrial Manufacturing (1985-1989). While living in Johnstown, he was on the Board of Trustees at Lee Hospital, the Keystone Chapter of American Red Cross, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He also served as chairman of Highland Sewer and Water Authority. In his spare time he coached Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church’s basketball team to multiple city championships.
In 1990, Ron became Superintendent of Bar and Rod Mills at the Atlantic Steel Company, resulting in a move to Atlanta, GA. After retiring again from the steel industry, he worked as a substitute teacher for Cherokee County School District in Georgia, and subsequently served as a paraprofessional aide in the Title I Program at Chapman Elementary School. He helped children to work through challenges in order to achieve their academic goals.
In 1997, Ron and Janet moved to Paoli, Pennsylvania to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He continued his work in education support in the Tredyffrin Easttown School District. Ron loved reading and spent much of his time volunteering for multiple libraries. He shared his love for books with his grandchildren, reading to them often. Ron was passionate about teaching children, and served in the children’s ministry at Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Devon, PA. He told stories during children sermons with an unforgettable enthusiasm, and an endless amount of Beanie-Baby characters. Ron knew how to put a smile on peoples’ faces, even through his unique sense of humor.
Ron enjoyed basketball, golf, game shows, puzzles, and cards. He shared these hobbies with his family and friends, always bringing enthusiasm and competitiveness to games. He continued to share his love for sports by helping to coach his grandson’s baseball team, and attending sporting events of all his grandchildren, serving as their biggest fan.
Ron is survived by his wife Janet of 60 years and his sons James Allen (Kimberly) and Robert (Kathleen) William Neumar. He is the grandfather of Jonathon, Karly, Jessica, Jacob, Nicholas, and Sarah.
