Robert Paul Zeller, 87

September 25, 2018

Robert Paul Zeller (87), beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to-be of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. He was blessed to have had his wife and family including all his grandchildren by his side celebrating his life over the last four days. He was the loving husband of Kathleen Patricia “Pat” (Caskey) Zeller, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in New Freedom, PA, he was the son of the late John A. and Beulah M. (Young) Zeller growing up on the J. A. Zeller Dumbarton Farm.
He was a 1951 graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Voice. He returned to Lancaster after graduating and worked in Radio and Television with Channel 8. Bob met his wife, Pat Caskey at the radio station while she was working as a receptionist.
A proud veteran, Robert was drafted and served with the United States Army Transportation Corps and was stationed in Germany as Military Police during the Korean Conflict. He also worked over 8 years for the American Forces Network (AFN) in Frankfurt Germany which serviced all of the United States Armed Forces in Europe.
Robert would later become the owner and operator of Zeller Travel Agency, specializing in group travel, where he would retire after working in the business for over 30 years. He and his family enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and many other outdoor activities.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lancaster for many years where he sang in the choir and volunteered as cantor. He was also a proud member of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and his most memorable moment was singing Carmina Burana at Carnegie Hall in New York. Robert was an active member of the Lancaster Sertoma Club where he served as Past President and was honored with the Gold Coat. He also served as the Bar-be-que Chairman.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Pat, and their four children: son Robert (wife Sue), son Stephen, daughter Nadine Washuta (husband Ken) and son David (wife Deb). Robert had ten grandchildren: Nicole Zeller, Kayla Resh (husband Mike), Ryan Zeller, Abigail Zeller, Miriam Zeller, Joanna Zeller, Natalie Zeller, Andrew Washuta (fiancé Seneca Thornley), Harry Washuta, Nick Washuta. Robert is blessed to have one great grandchild on the way (Resh).
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Zeller, III and two sisters, Julia Prosser and Mary Lois Horn.
Pop Pop, as he was known to all his grandchildren, would entertain them with his stories from his life growing up on a farm. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at the zoo, sporting events, Longs Park, York Fair, and catching critters down at Muddy Run!
Friends and family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 Saint Joseph Street, Lancaster. Dearest Pat and Family,
We felt so blessed to have known Bob for the entire time you were our neighbors at Southern Village.   Bob had a great personality, infectious laugh, and kind soul.   He will be greatly missed as a constant presence in our neighborhood, walking your beloved Scruffy.
We are so sad to miss the visitation and services but we are visiting our granddaughter at college in Colorado.   Please know that we are with you all in our thoughts and prayers.
Our deepest sympathy to you all.
Lovingly,
Diana and Roger Wolf

I will always remember the times we got together with Grandma Zeller at your house on Rider Avenue.  I will not be able to attend the funeral but everyone is in my thoughts.

I am so very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing.  I have so many amazing memories from when we moved to PA and were lucky enough to be your neighbor’s.  You taught us so much. That gift of your booming voice from across the street will never be forgotten.  You were an amazing man, rest in peace. Joan, Roger, Courtney, Abby and Haley Monson
