Robert P. “Bob” Burkel, 73

August 1, 1947 - November 17, 2020

Robert P. Burkel, 73, of Lancaster, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on November 17, 2020 at Hospice & Community Care. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William B. and Helen E. (Mayer) Burkel and the husband of Linda J. (Atkinson) Burkel.

An electrician by trade, Bob worked in construction before being employed with Cooper Hospital as the Electrical Maintenance Lead until his retirement in 2014 after 26 years of employment. Bob was a member of the National Guard and served active duty during Vietnam.

Bob was a member of the Joseph H. Brown Lodge 751, Philadelphia for many years. He held the position of Secretary of the Lodge for 24 years, retiring from the position in December of 2019. Bob greatly enjoyed Masonic brotherhood and was a proud Freemason.

A jack of all trades, Bob was able to fix anything that needed fixing. He loved helping others and was always the first to offer a hand with a project or repair. Bob was a talented woodworker and made toys for his children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, tending to his bountiful garden, and playing pinochle with his wife and friends.

Some of the fondest memories his family shares are their travels. Bob and his wife took cruises and went on weekend trips up and down the coast with their close friends. Along with their girls, they would go on Sunday drives and trips cross country; camping and seeing the sights along the way. Every year Bob and his family would spend time at North Wildwood. There, Bob enjoyed searching for shells, watching the beautiful sunsets, and all the precious time he got to spend with his grandchildren.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years, Linda, his daughters; Amy Tucci, and her husband Tony, and Krista Grimm and her husband Larry, and four beloved grandchildren; Alyssa, Rylie, Jacob, and Sarah. He will also be missed by his brother, Glenn (Colleen), sister-in-law Cindy, wife of late brother-in-law Jim, brother-in-law Bob (Mary), sister-in-law Susan (Frank) and many dear nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wayne and Dennis.

A Memorial Service will take place Friday, November 27, 2020 at 2:00pm at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Guests will be received prior to the service starting at 1:00pm. Before the start of the service, Bob will be receiving the Masonic Rite.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice & Community Care at 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

The Masonic Rite and Memorial Service will be LiveStreamed on this obituary page. The stream will appear below the obituary 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the services at 2:00pm.
