Obituaries

Robert L. Garrett

Bob’s spirit was released from his earthly home on March 3, 2010. He was greatly loved
and will be missed by his family; wife, Loretta Stathopulos Garrett and his daughters
Tracey Garrett, Elizabeth Garrett Keehner, and Jennifer Garrett. He was the proud and
loving grandfather of Cameron, Afton, Stewart, Brooke, Connor and Kendall. Surviving as well are a sister, Gwendolyn Fry Carter and a brother, George Garrett, husband of Peg Garrett, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents were the late Raymond H. Garrett and Grace Greenwood Garrett. Bob retired after 38 years of teaching science at Garden Spot High School, where he influenced and encouraged his many students. Bob  was active in community service over many years and was devoted to his church, Grace United Church of Christ. After he retired from teaching, Bob worked part-time at Manheim Auto Auction where he forged close friendships with his fellow van members. These men from varied backgrounds touched Bob and he cared about each and every one of them. Bob also was a life long golfer who played the game for the beauty of nature and the pleasure of sharing time with his golf buddies. We are grateful for the support and prayers of all our friends and family, and are thankful for the care and guidance of Hospice of Lancaster County.

A memorial service will be held at Grace UCC, 1947 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m.

Please omit flowers. The Robert L. Garrett Memorial Fund has been established at Grace UCC Church, and if desired, you may send a contribution in his memory.

Mr. Garrett was one of my all time favorite teachers at Garden Spot. I can still picture his enthusiasm  and sense of humor he brought to our biology class. He inspired me to look into becoming a teacher and bringing that energy level to students. I became a teacher and taught for 34 years. My deepest condolences to his family-I will never forget him!

To the Garrett Family, I was very sorry to hear of  the death of a wonderful man, husband, father, and teacher. I graduated from Garden Spot in 1968 and was in Bob Garrett’s homeroom and Advanced Biology class. To this day it was the best part of high school. He was a teacher who gave me the chance to do my best and helped me discover that I was good at something I loved. While it took me a while, I finally ended up in the science field. I had always hoped I would "run into" him and be able to say thank you in person. As I will be out of town on the 17th I will not be able to tell you in person, that I was one of many whose life was touched by Bob Garrett. With love and prayers to all his family.
Sincerely,
Maurine Moeller Van Dyke

Bob and I graduated from College together and I taught Science with him at Garden Spot High School for six years. Bob was dedicated to his family and his teaching career. My condolences to his family. I have special memories of the times we shared and worked together.
