Robert E. Weaver, 83

July 12, 2018

Deacon Robert E. “Bob” Weaver, 83, of Lancaster, completed his earthly journey Thursday, July 12,2018, at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. Born in Hanover and raised in Columbia, Bob was the son of the late Fabian S. and Grace C. (Hockensmith) Weaver. He was the loving husband of Judith C. (Connor) Weaver, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 2.

Bob was a 1952 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, he attended the Lancaster Business College. Over the next 20 years, Bob owned several small businesses in the Lancaster area and began studying to become a permanent deacon in 1975. In 1978, he was ordained as part of the first class of permanent deacons of the Diocese of Harrisburg. He spent the next part of his life’s journey serving as a Chaplain for the former St. Joe’s Hospital/Lancaster Regional Medical Center for over 37 years.

A devout Catholic, Bob was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lancaster, where he was part of the Men’s Club. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus #867, where he attained the level of 3rd Degree. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, and was a diehard fan of the World Champion Philadelphia Eagles!

In addition to his wife, Judy, Bob is survived by his five children: Kevin R. Weaver, companion of Tracey Shifflett, of Columbia; Michael P. Weaver, husband of Gini, of Lancaster; Christopher J. Weaver, husband of Lisa Mertzman, of Lancaster; Maria T. Weaver-Hollowniczky, wife of Brad, of Lancaster; and Rosemary G. Williams, wife of Jason, of Philadelphia. Bob is also survived by his two sisters, Betty Shelley and Mary Brown, both of Elizabethtown; by eight wonderful grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a
special family friend, Melissa Donley and her daughter.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8PM, Wednesday, July 18 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM, Thursday, July 19, at the church. Family and friends will be received at church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Lancaster Catholic High School at www.lchsyes.org . To leave an online condolence, please visit:

Hi. I didn’t know your husband or father, but my dad, Carl Carson did.  Carl was in the Navy with him. Cleaning out some closets I found Robert E Weaver’s USS Lowry World Cruise book along with pictures and a letter to his parents from 1953. If you would like me to send these items, please let me know. I’m sorry for your loss. I think my parents may have seen him when they lived in Lititz at the Luther Acres senior community.  Both of my parents have passed….it has been 5 years for my dad, Carl

To Judy and Family,
I knew Bob several years ago when I worked at Lancaster Regional. He was a wonderful member of the pastoral team and so caring to the participants in the Adult Day Care. He often spoke of his family with love and pride. I am sure he will be greatly missed by you and the many people he touched. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bob held a special place in our heart! You and my father, Matt Culley were in Deacon Training togeather and after my fathers passing you always made sure that my mother was able to attend the yearly Deacon gathering by taking her.
