Robert “Bob” W. Vest, Sr., 71

October 09, 2020

Robert W. Vest, Sr., 71, of Lancaster, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 9, 2020. Born in Bridgeton, NJ he was the son of the late Russell C. and Violet (Novaska) Vest.

Bob was a veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. He served honorably in the Army. Though he moved from Philadelphia, he remained an avid Philly sports fan his entire life. If there was a Philly team playing, Phillies, Eagles or Flyers, he tuned in. In the mid-80s, he was part of the St. Joseph midget football league and on the Board of Directors. He will be remembered for his 21+ years of dedication to the Lancaster Regional Medical Center, as a Patient Care Tech, until his retirement.

He will be greatly missed by his children; Gail Mowery (Donald), Robert Jr. (Robin Rohrer), Jeffrey and Brooke as well as 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his parents and a sister, Patricia Stokes.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 10:30AM on the South Lawn of the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz PA. A visitation will be held from 9:30AM until the start of the service. Interment will follow at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville at 1:30PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to the Salvation Army

Condolences to the Family

October 24, 2020

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Robert W. Vest.  His fellow troopers of the 11th Armored Cavalry’s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia, salute our fallen brother.   Bob served courageously with F Troop of the 2nd Squadron in 1969 and 1970, and it was our privilege to have him in the ranks of the Legendary Blackhorse Regiment.  Our loss is that of another brother down and we will continue to honor his memory at our gatherings and at our annual reunion.  A Purple Heart recipient, he was an exemplary soldier.  His name will be listed on the roll of our honored dead and in our newsletter, Thunder Run.   But as our Burial Liturgy clearly states:  “life has not ended, merely changed”  and Robert’s soul continues on an endless path.  As we were together then (in Vietnam), we will be together again in the life hereafter, comfortably enfolded in the loving arms of our Merciful Father.

After long ER night shifts we always looked forward to the sun rising and Bob’s appearance. He would roll in with some larger than life tale which always helped pull us to 0700.   The most memorable ramblings were of his Vietnam service & the ever present possibility that he would run away to someplace tropical – taking half our staff with him. RIP. Thanks for your service.

My condolences to Bob’s family.
I worked with BV at Continental Can till they closed in 1988. Many good memories from that time. I would see him at the hospital at different times and walking to Manor Shopping ctr. Sometimes I’d pick him up and share some memories.

Sorry for the loss of your dad, Gail.  71 is way to young to be gone.  God must have needed him for something more important.  Our prayers are with you and your family.  We love you and hope you can find peace.

He will surely be missed. I knew him since he was 20 years old and he always wanted to work in the medical field and loved his job as a Patient Care Tech. He loved his children and his grandchildren.
