Robert “Bob” Caldwell Diller, Sr., 89
November 24, 2024
Robert “Bob” Caldwell Diller, Sr., passed away in his home on November 24, 2024, at the age of 89. His family was by his side.
The last of nine children to Harry and Grace Caldwell Diller, Bob was born and raised in Intercourse, PA. Bob attended East Lampeter High School and later proudly served in the US Army stateside. He had a long career as an over the road truck driver for Yellow Freight and was awarded the million-miler recognition for safety multiple times.
Bob treasured his time with his wife Joan with whom he enjoyed 61 years of marriage. They enjoyed getting together with countless friends and family as well as traveling and going out to eat. In retirement Bob took up golf and according to some “was the worst one on the course but had the most fun!” Bob was a lifelong car enthusiast, enjoyed traveling, was curious about the world, and had a funny story for every occasion.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by his children, Robert Caldwell (Wendy Krushinski) and Philip Douglas (Kelly McSparran); his grandchildren, Alysa Jo and her fiancé Matt Bomberger, Bryce Robert and step grandchildren Amanda, Zachary and Paige. In addition to the many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly, his “grandpups” Buzz & Mya will miss their daily visits begging for treats.
A private graveside service will be held at a future date at the Saint Joseph’s New Roman Catholic Cemetery in Lancaster. A memorial luncheon will be scheduled for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice and Community Care.
Bob lived a full life—one of hard work, love, and dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
