Richard “Rick” B. Rittenhouse, 63

January 30, 1960 - May 19, 2023

Richard B. Rittenhouse, 63, passed away at his Strasburg Township home on Friday, May 19, 2023, following a lengthy battle with ALS. Rick was the loving husband of Arlene R. (Urban) Rittenhouse for 34 years, and she was his “baby” for 8 years before that.

He was born in Lancaster, the son of the late Charles J. and Geraldine R. (Chant) Rittenhouse.

Rick graduated from Hempfield High School, Class of 1978, and enlisted in the US Navy, where he proudly served as a Hull Technician 3rd Class onboard the USS Farragut (DDG 37). Following the service, Rick worked construction for many years, building prefabricated homes and laying concrete. He found his calling restoring peoples’ lives by doing fire and water mitigation for Purofirst and Paul Davis Restoration.

He worshipped at Calvary Monument Bible Church. Rick enjoyed helping people through his work at Paul Davis Restoration and doing the Lord’s work, consisting of a Missions trip to Bolivia and collecting money each year to purchase turkeys to donate to The Salvation Army at Thanksgiving.

Rick had been an avid deer hunter, he cheered for the Eagles, enjoyed Led Zeppelin, playing games, Turkey Hill Coffee, taking care of his family and he loved life, his family and everyone around him. Rick was also loved dearly by those same people.

In addition to his wife Arlene, Rick is survived by their daughter Stacie L. Broyles, wife of Chris of Millersville; three grandchildren, Dietric B.H. Ranck of Strasburg, Benjamin M. Drebenstedt of Millersville, and Aaron J. Broyles of Middletown; and his siblings, Aranetta R. Hershey of Lancaster, Charles J. Rittenhouse, husband of Deb of East Petersburg, Albert N. Rittenhouse of Lancaster, Thomas O. Rittenhouse, Estella G. Pennington, wife of the late William of Columbia, and William L. Rittenhouse of Mountville.

Rick’s family will greet friends June 2, 2023 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, followed by a celebration of his life with Pastor Tom Hubbard officiating at 6:30 pm, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Please dress casually.

Interment will be private.

Condolences to the Family

May 24, 2023

To the whole Rittenhouse family, Rick was a blessing in my life and we shared many incredibly fun and memorable moments.  I think of the Pleasure Rd barn and how crazy Rick was jumping from beams which I had no problem being a spectator.  I remember the many trips to Mt. Gretna and Otter’s Creek, what great times.  I had the fortune to attend the same high school as Rick and the joy of running around as teenagers.  One of our most memorable times was jumping Donnerville Rd tracks in my mom’s VW bug and landing it.  We had great times playing football and softball on Sundays with friends and family.  In closing, Rick lived life to the fullest, touching the hearts of many along the way.   Love you Rick and the Rittenhouse Clan!  God is Great all the time.
