Richard J. “Capt. Rick” Lapham IV, 70

January 24, 2016

Richard J. Lapham IV, 70, of Willow Street, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 24, 2016.

He was the husband of Donna Miller Lapham, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage this past May 15th. He will be deeply missed.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Richard J. Lapham III and the late Anna E. Geiter Lapham. Rick was a 1963 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. Later, he earned his license to captain fishing charters from Lewes, Delaware. He had worked for Yellow Freight Systems for 28 years, until retiring in 2004.

Rick was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the National Rifle Assn. for many years. He enjoyed shooting clay targets and his marksmanship won him several trophies. Recently, he enjoyed hosting the Paradise Sportsman’s Assn. every Wednesday. He loved the great outdoors, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and archery.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: Richard J. Lapham V of Willow Street; his daughter Daphne married to Lowell Fry of Manheim; his four grandchildren Richard VI, Colin, Kayla, and Alyssa; his sister Diana married to Donald Strauch of Eaton, CO and his two brothers: Perry married to Sandy Lapham of South Bend, IN and Larry married to Darlene Lapham of Felton, DE. He is also survived by his aunt Shirley Musacchio of Quarryville and by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone, especially our wonderful friends and neighbors for all of the heartfelt prayers and moral support.

Friends will be received on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 4-5PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 5PM.

Donna, Rich, Daphne & Families,
Sonny was my “dear cuz,” more like a big brother for as long as I can remember.  We had our moments, but the good out weighed the  bad.   So many memories.
But our love was always unconditional & deep down we knew that.  He may have given a dissertation on many things, but he was always there if we needed him.  He was a good friend to my husband & son.
I will miss his smile, laughter, jokes, our christmas trees & choc. covered cherries exchange each year & his big “bear hugs.”   He broght much to our lives.
I pray that God will heal our hearts with time & give each of you the faith, courage & strength in the weeks and mos. ahead.
May the Lord hold you all in the palm of His hand and grant eternal peace and rest to “my cuz.”
Love,
Trudy, Jim & Fred

My deepest sympathy to the Lapham family, Richards wife and children, brothers and sister. Haven’t seen each other for many years but always received your Christmas card. I was at your house once or twice when my dad (Buddy Stoll) was living, and he and Rick played a little music together. May the Lord give you strength and comfort at this time.
Sincerely, Linda (Stoll) Patterson

Donna, many thoughts and sincere prayers are being raised for you and your family this week, as we have received the surprising news of Rick’s passing.  God is your refuge and strength at this time, a very present help in trouble and difficult times; therefore, you need not fear, though your world is in upheaval and seemingly crumbling; He says to you, “Cease striving, and know that I am God.” Ps. 46.  And now, Father, we ask you to let Donna lie down in green pastures and lead her beside still waters, as she rests in the fact that You are her Shepherd.  Ps. 23. Sincere prayers are with you, The Rutherfords
