Richard Ellis “Dick” Yeskoo, 95

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dick Yeskoo, 95, in the early hours of Sunday, February 2, 2025, following a brief illness.

Dick and his twin brother, Don, were born on July 31, 1929, in Paterson, NJ, to Richard Cornelius and Myrtle (Boonstra) Yeskoo. They had three older sisters: Dorothy, Ruth and Lois.

On November 3, 1951, Dick married his beloved Georgia Jane Wilcox in the First Christian Church in Binghamton, NY. In his own words, “Our life together as husband and wife was one of unconditional love for each other and for our family. Georgia… was dedicated in every way to me, and I to her.” They were married for 64 years and had four sons, eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Dick grew up in humble circumstances, yet from a young age demonstrated intelligence, initiative, determination and a capacity for hard work. At age 18, he submitted an application and managed to secure a job at AT&T. This blossomed into an illustrious 40-year career! The only brief interlude in his time at AT&T was between 1951-1953 when he served in the Army during the Korean War. He spent 11 of those months in Germany helping to engineer, install and operate the communications network for NATO.

Dick was a committed Christian. His faith was central to his life. As he often stated, his priorities were: “God, family, work, in this order!” He always kept his Bible close to him, reading it and studying it diligently. He prayed for countless people. He led Men’s Bible Studies and had other leadership roles throughout the years on the Boards of Churches and various Christian Ministries. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping, playing golf and tennis, and traveling to various places around the world. For sixty-six consecutive years, he spent vacation time up in Speculator, NY in the Adirondacks, at and near Camp-of-the-Woods, making many happy memories. He was especially known for his charismatic personality, his avid story-telling, his principles, and his generosity to causes that were close to his heart… not to mention his love of hot food and good ice cream!

Dick was pre-deceased by all his siblings, as well as his wife, Georgia (2016); his firstborn son and namesake, Richard (2024); his granddaughter, Emily (2019).

Dick is survived by the wife of his oldest son, Dena Wolf; his other three sons, David R. (Marcia), Paul D. (Lindsey), Steven A. (Brigitte); his grandchildren, Ryan (Cindy), Ian, Sean (Christi), R. Andrew (Jessica), Timothy (Christa), Christopher (Ashley), and Madeleine; and his great-granddaughter, Violet.

His presence is now also missed by many extended family members and friends, including his eldest niece Dottie Nickles with whom (in recent years) he enjoyed a special coffee morning every Friday.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at Charles Snyder III Funeral Home, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street PA 17584. Private Family Burial will immediately follow at Willow Street United Church of Christ Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster PA 17601. A time to greet the family will begin at 10:15 AM. A light lunch reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, Dick requested that donations be made in his name to Lancaster Bible College, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster PA 17601.
