Richard David Ashby, 74

Richard David Ashby, 74, passed away at his Manheim Township home on Thursday, April 14, 2016. He was the loving husband of Carole (Nell) Ashby. David was born in Lancaster to the late Joseph and Anna May (Kolb) Ashby and he grew up on Cabbage Hill.
David served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963, with a tour of duty in Korea. He next worked as a barber for Glatfelter’s Barber Shop in East Petersburg. David then owned Ashby’s Restaurant in Lancaster.
In addition to his wife Carole, David is survived by his brother, Robert W. Ashby (Linda) of Akron, 2 stepchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 2 nephews and 1 niece. His brother Ronald Ashby preceded David in death.
Private graveside services with Military Honors will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial contribution may be made to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

I was so saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. He was a colorful character who always had a good story to tell. My sympathys to Carole and family. The restaurant world has lost a star!!

Dave will always be rembered, our Golf matches, our trip’s together, the good times at Ashby’s, also the card games with Ash’s famous saying ” cards on the table “. I guess he will be teeing it up with Taggert until I get to the Tee Box in the sky. Mel & Syl

My deepest sympathy to Carole and family. I will never forget Dave because he was like a father to me during my time at chuckles. I will never forget when he told me how to move a 220 electric line for my dryer. He was always giving me advice on how to do handyman projects. He was a great guy and will be greatly missed.
