(Duff) Barr. Ray was the beloved husband of Nancy M. (Shearer) Barr, and together they shared 51 years of marriage this past December.

Ray graduated from Solanco High School and worked as a spray painter retiring from Ford New Holland, now Case New Holland. Following retirement, he worked at Four Seasons Golf Club in Landisville, and later Crossgates Golf Club in Millersville, where he loved being a lackey. Ray was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Washington Lodge No. 156, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection and the Harrisburg Consistory. He was also a longtime member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church in Peach Bottom.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, Ray is survived by his children, Ann Marie Barr and Mitch Barr, as well as his grandson, “his best buddy” Mitchell, and his granddaughter, Morgan, affectionately known as “Bug”. Also surviving is his brother, William E. Overly and his wife Mildred; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Henry S. Overly, Sherman C. Overly and Chester C. Barr, and a sister, Marie E. Ragan.

Condolences to the Family

My deepest sympathy to all of you – Nancy, Mitch and Ann Marie.  Shorty was such a dear friend to our family – as all of you are.  I have so many fond memories from childhood, and particularly of such a beautiful friendship he had with Dad.  I just learned of Shorty’s passing about an hour ago, so I’m deeply sorry I didn’t know in time to be with you at the service.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Sincerely, Mary Henry

Nancy, Ann Marie and Mitch,
I only found out today.  I am so sorry for your loss.  Shorty was a true gentleman and such a good friend to my Dad and Mom.  Such a big heart.  Some of my best memories are playing with you guys at your house or at your Grandma’s next door when we were little kids.  I still have pictures of us from going to the races together.  I know how much he loved all of you.  My prayers are with you.

John and I send our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Try to focus on all the many memories and good times you’ve shared as a family.  The loss is hard, but it does hurt less over time.

Oh Nancy, I just read about Ray’s passing….my deepest sympathies. I have been praying for you two for the past month & now I know why God has placed you on my heart. I was only to your home once or twice years ago…I don’t remember which house it was…but as I drive down your way I pray for you and your precious family. I always remember the love & friendship you two shared & how proud he was of your family. He was a true “gentle”-man. I am praying God’s peace and comfort as you go through this time. Lots of love and hugs to you dear friend, Ann Marie, Mitch & your grandchildren.
Love your friend Always,
April Becker (A Life Time Willow Valley Team Member)
