Raye A. Frye, 84
February 28, 2025
Ray Frye, 84, of Strasburg, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Maytown to the late Ray and Olive (Byers) Frye.
Ray, a graduate from Donegal High School, was a member of the wrestling team and the school band. After graduating, he immediately enlisted into the United States Army. After basic training, he was assigned to the Frankfort Base in Germany, leading up to the Vietnam War. He competed on the Army’s wresting team while there and earned the rank of Specialist 5th class. Ray was discharged in August of 1961. That September he met his future wife and soul mate. They married in July of 1962.
Ray was the loving husband to his devoted wife, Sandy, and they would have observed their 63rd wedding anniversary this July. Together they loved and raised two daughters, Kimberly Foltz (Jeffery) of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Kamala Reese (David) of Willow Street. Ray was the loving “Pap” to his grandchildren: Madelaine, Abigail and Samuel Foltz, Ashley (Reese) Beauchamp and a great-grandson, Hunter Allen Reese. Ray was a “Happy-go-Lucky” family man who loved playing cards, always a smile on his face – he loved to play tricks on the kids. Ray was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed hunting, golfing, riding rail trails on his bike with his wife, family camping in their travel trailer, and the hobby of wood carving.
Ray was an electrician by trade. He owned and operated Frye Electric for 18 years. He was a member of the Strasburg Jaycees, Sportsman Association, The American Legion, Elizabethtown Moose Lodge, and a coach for the Strasburg Midget Football League. He was always the go-to guy for anyone who needed help or volunteers for his community and friends.
Ray was part of the start-up donors needed for the funding of the ground-breaking of the West Lampeter YMCA and the National Museum of the United States Army in Fort Belvoir, Va.
Ray was a member of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church where he held the position as a trustee. At the time of his passing, he was attending Grace Community Church in Willow Street. Ray was preceded in death by his siblings Martin, Harry, Joe and Nancy.
Ray will be interred at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Military Honors. Please omit flowers and kindly consider contributions in Ray’s memory to: The National Museum of the United States Army, 1175 Liberty Drive, Fort Belvoir, Va. 22060
