Ralph G. Kindrew, 80
Ralph George Kindrew, 80, of Lancaster and Quarryville passed peacefully on September 21, 2011 at Essa Flory Hospice of Lancaster. Born January 5, 1931, in Martin’s Creek, Pa, he was the son of Edward and Lillian (Repsher) Kindrew.
Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean (Pensyl) with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
He was a long-time member of the Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church.
Ralph is survived by his son, Jeffrey A. married to Dianne of Lancaster, Pa and daughter Judith A. wife of John W. Bowers of Quarryville, Pa. Additionally, Ralph is survived by his brother James married to Ruth of Palmerton, Pa and five grandchildren: Nate, Zach, DanieIle, Jenna and Jordan. Ralph was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Elizabeth Bittinger, Dorothy Gorgy, Robert and Charles Kindrew.
Ralph was a Veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War as a medic attached to the 213 Field Artillery. Following his military service Ralph was employed by Hughes Printing in Stroudsburg, Pa and then relocated with his family to Lancaster in 1960. Ralph remained with Hughes Printing through the company’s transition to the former Lancaster Press and retired in 1996. Since his retirement, Ralph enjoyed working at several part-time jobs including IKON and Darrenkamp’s of Willow Street.
He was a member of the American Legion, Mount Joy Post for 37 years.
Ralph enjoyed playing cards with friends, traveling and supporting his grandchildren’s sporting and school activities. Although most frequently his trips were short drives to flea markets and shopping, Ralph also enjoyed longer trips to destinations such as Rehoboth Beach and Florida. Ralph also enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 2:30pm at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 414 E. King St. Lancaster, PA with cousin, The Rev. Clifford Flick officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30pm at Snyder’s. Interment will be in Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and the Vet-21 Salute Honor Guard.
