I first met Jack and Darlene at Ursinus College where they became volunteers in campus ministry. The students loved them and spent many hours at their apartment on the edge of campus. Jack and Darlene were a God send. Jack suddenly appeared at a leadership meeting and introduced himself in his characteristic kind and gentle way. We immediately fell in love with Jack and shortly therafter, Darlene. So many qualities that I both envy and admire. Gentleness in dealing with both friendly and hostile students. Kindness towards all. Courage to speak a prophetic word when needed, but always as a seed, never as a weapon. When I heard of Jack’s passing, my heart sank…..Jack was one of my heroes, as is Darlene and when I heard he is with Jesus, I rejoiced for him, telling the Lord, ‘God, the world has lost a quiet hero in Jack. He deserves a special celebration. He enacted heaven here on earth and in so doing, made it far more compelling to all who knew him….but then again, you knew that.’ With Jack’s passing, my heart is heavy, with, and for Darlene and family members. The ache, however, reminds me that this world, wonderful though it can be, is not our home and Jack’s passing gives us one more reason to long for our home which is devoid of suffering, illness, injustice, time and goodbyes. Dear Darlene,
I will pray for you at this time. Jack was welcomed with My good and faithful servant. He served Jesus faithfully for many years. Those he led to the Lord who went to heaven before him, were there beside Jesus to welcome him Home. He is healed, healthy, and rejoicing. He is Home safe! I will pray that you sense the peace that passes understanding and His loving arms around you. Your children will be a huge help. Mine were a big help when Bill entered heaven’s gates 6 years ago. Take care, Together Under His Wings, Carolyn
