Peter Hershey Risser, 86
Peter Hershey Risser, 86, of Millersville, passed away on Thursday March 5, 2009, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born September 13, 1922 in Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Peter Musser and Susanna Hershey Risser. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ritz Risser.
Mr. Risser was a past Master of the Charles M. Howell Masonic Lodge #496 in Millersville. He was also a member of the Millersville VFW. Mr. Risser proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was in the Mediterranean, the Normandy invasion and Okinawa. He went into Tokyo Bay on the minesweeper Strive to clear mines for the U.S.S. Missouri. He spent seven years at sea, four with the Navy and three years with the Merchant Marines as an employee of Sun Oil Company. He worked for AMP, Inc. for 30 years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Risser is survived by a son, Peter Philip Risser of Duncannon; two daughters: Penny, wife of Paul Gibson, of Pearland, TX and Erica, wife of Dane Runkles of Conestoga; one brother, James Risser of Ephrata; two sisters: Harriet Keene of Millersville, and Ruth Wimble of West Chester, and a grandson, Anton Runkles. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence and Grace, and a brother, John.
Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc. 441 North George Street, Millersville, with Pastor Stephen Cote officiating. The service will conclude with "Amazing Grace" being played on the bagpipes. Interment will follow at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, East Hopewell Township, York County. Military honors will take place at the graveside. A viewing will be held on Monday evening March 9, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic services accorded by the Charles M. Howell Lodge # 496 at 8:45 p.m. Please note there will be no public viewing prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. At the family’s request, please do not send flowers.
