Peter A. Grossi, 94

November 06, 2015

Peter A. Grossi, 94, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Country Meadows Retirement Community.
He was the husband of Mary M. Mimm Grossi, with whom he would have celebrated 74 years of marriage this December 7th. Born in Monte San Biagio, Italy, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Maria Teresa Grossi. Pete’s family came to America by ship when he was three years old.
Pete served during World War II in the US Army Air Corps in Africa, Egypt, and Europe. During the war, he enjoyed traveling back to his hometown where his relatives and friends, upon hearing his arrival, would greet him with cheers and hugs. It was there that he met his grandmother. When his service ended after the war, he returned and moved to California with Mary, where he went to school and became a hairstylist. He worked in Beverly Hills and then returned to Lancaster where he worked at Watt and Shand in 1958 as a hairstylist, before opening his own shope, the Fashion Plate, with Mary.
Pete loved his life with Mary, took pride in the work they did. He was kind and generous to all that he met. He loved his family and especially loved to sit around, share a meal(especially gnocchi!) and a story! Always with a gleam in his eye.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and active with the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers: Attilio married to Angeline , Louis , and Robert married to Barbara. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dolores Gibble and brother-in-law, George Mimm. He is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews that meant the world to him.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA from 10-11AM, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Anthony Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Pete’s memory to the Veterans Administration Medical Centers at www.volunteer.va.gov/apps/Volunteer Now/ or to Knights of Columbus Council 867, 1575 New Danville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603.
