Paul S. Voulopos, 92

September 06, 2018

Paul S. Voulopos, 92, of Mount Joy, PA, passed away on September 6, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Stergos and Maria (Hondras) Voulopos. Paul was the loving husband of 68 years to Kanella (Theros) Voulopos.
A WWII veteran, he served in the US Army Air Corps. Paul was a 1943 graduate of J.P. McCaskey and a graduate from F&M College with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1950. He played football and was past president of the Alumni Association at F&M College. He was a lifelong, devoted member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he sang in the choir, participated in the church Parish Council and Greek Food Bazaar. Paul was past president of AHEPA and was a founding member of the Sertoma Club. He was an avid Orioles and Dodgers fan. Paul was a lover of Roots Market and never missed a Tuesday. He enjoyed playing Bridge, tennis, golf and dancing.
Paul owned and operated Lancaster Beverage for 38 years, where he was fondly known for his Coke machine with the button called “Surprise”.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kanella, are four sons: Stephen Voulopos, husband of Wendy, James Voulopos, husband of Dory, Dennis Voulopos and Timothy Voulopos, husband of Dana. Paul was very proud of his seven grandchildren: Michael, Katina, Kristian, Leah, Eleni, Makayli and Sophia; and one great-grandson: Jacob. He is also survived by five godsons and many cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by a brother, John Voulopos.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, September 9, 2018 with the Trisagion Service being held at 7 PM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603. Viewing will continue at the church on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 9:30-10:30 AM with a Funeral Service to begin at 10:30 AM officiated by Rev. Hector Firoglanis, Rev. Alexander Goussetis and Rev. Alexander Veronis. Paul will be laid to rest at Conestoga Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Very saddened by Mr Voulopos’s passing. Always remember his sense of humor and fun natured ribbing. Had some frightening rides in the back of the beer delivery van……! Also one of the kindest souls I knew growing up and as an adult. My condolences to Dennis Tim Jim and Steve, and Mrs. Voulopos .

Oh my, this is a sad bit of news about one of my younger self’s favorite adults. “Mr. Voulopos” used to tease me relentlessly, yet affectionately, by mispronouncing my name as Jo-NAY-than; and, on the rare occasion that Skyline defeated Golden Meadows, he enjoyed getting under my skin with just the right amount of good-natured ribbing. Later in life, I came to more fully appreciate how rare a gift “Paul” had to be able to relate to kids on our terms, while commanding the respect of his peers. I’ll remember him as an ever-youthful spirit, always with the same ‘glint’ in his eye I saw in my father’s. It may be some consolation that Paul has a tennis match waiting for him (and, with fresh knees, Paul will be everyone’s first choice for a doubles partner!).
To his family: Know that I share your loss at the passing of someone who’ll always represent the Lancaster Greek community to me. Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη!

Dear Voulopos family, very sorry to learn of the passing of “Mr. Voulopos”. As a young girl his warm smile made quite an impression on me, and I know my Dad, Paul VanAulen depended on him for help with the Boy Scouts and the Burrowes Festival. My deepest condolences to you all. Kathy (VanAulen)Seifred

Mrs. Voulopos, Steve, Jim and Tim: I remember: I called him Mr. Voulopos and he named me G.S.; His smile, laugh and pleasant personality; his interest in our little league games from the door of Lancaster Beverage; his volunteer work for the Burrowes festival each and every year and the “surprise” button which entertained every kid in the neighborhood.  I am thinking about you and the loss to humanity.  Just a splendid man …… Gary Sample

Dear Voulopos Family — Although I only knew Paul for a very short time, I considered him a true friend.  Paul substituted in our bridge group during the past year and he filled in for me several times so our direct personal contact was limited.  But in the short time we did know each other, I learned he was a very good bridge player and more importantly a fine gentleman.  My condolences for your loss.

Jim:
Our heartfelt condolences to you, your Mom, brothers and the entire Voulopos extended family upon hearing of your Dad’s passing.  He was such a great guy, full of life, love and laughter.  I’ll remember in particular  his enthusiasm and great life advice to me at backyard BBQs at his house in Lancaster (back in the 80s when I was courting that girl from Lancaster you introduced me to who became my wife).
So glad to hear Baby and you all got to spend time with him and that he was surrounding by the ones he loved.  He will be missed but not forgotten.
Wishing you all peace,
Jeff and Marian Pitkin

So sad to hear the news.  My thoughts and prayers go out to you all!  I personally have so many great memories of Uncle Paul! His sense of humor, his smile, his laugh and the awesome nicknames he would give me and my sisters for no reason except to make us laugh…mine was Yohan and my sister Lisa’s was Lucy Lu…not sure why he chose those names but we loved it and loved him very much.  Miss you.  JV
