February 17, 2023
Patricia Johnston, 97, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Heron Point Retirement Community in Chestertown, MD.
Pat was born on October 17, 1925 in Greensburg, PA, the daughter of the late William Ralph and Isabelle Boettner Johnston. She was preceded in death by her sisters Jayne Allen (Franklyn), and identical twin Isabelle Boone (Wilkerson).
Pat attended Shaw High School in East Cleveland Ohio and continued her education at Germantown Hospital Nursing School alongside Isabelle. She worked as a private duty nurse and enlisted in the Navy in 1959. While serving in the navy, Pat traveled throughout the US and world working on bases as far away as Naples, Italy and Japan.
After returning to the US, Pat entered the Naval Reserves and continued her nursing career at a VA Hospital in the Miami, Florida area where she eventually retired. In 2008, Pat moved north to be closer to Isabelle and relocated to Lancaster, PA and then later resettled in Chestertown, MD.
Pat’s true passion in life was golfing and her dogs. She was an avid and competitive golfer, playing up to 36 holes daily. And when she wasn’t golfing, she had two beloved pets, Buck (Saint Bernard) and DeDe (French Poodle). She would share stories of dogs with all who loved her.
At Heron Point, she was affectionately known as PJ and always carried dog treats to share with her four-legged friends on her daily walks. While back east, PJ enjoyed the company of her family and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Isabelle’s family: Linda McCullough (Jim) of Port Angeles, Washington and Sandy Banko (Roger) of Preston, MD and their children Christopher, Vincent, and Daniel. Jayne’s family: Steven Allen (Mary) of Springfield, MA, Mark Allen (Wendy) of St. Charles, IL, Mary Beth Zaremski (Gary) of Oakville, CT, Jeffrey Allen (Maryellen) of Narragansett, RI, and Patricia Selsky (Paul) of Underhill, VT. Also missing PJ will be her grand dogs: Keta, Cooper, Juno, and Hannah.
Pat will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She will be laid to rest alongside her sister in the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Aunt Pat,
This October 17th will seem lonely, because this will be the first time in 73 years that I won’t be sharing my birthday with you and Aunt Isabelle. You lived a full life and you lived it your way. I know you’re happy now to be reunited with your sisters and parents now. Hope you’re enjoying a round or two of golf also. Miss you and love you. Your nephew, Steve
