Norma L. Joseph, 88

Norma L. Joseph, 88, of Lititz, formerly of King of Prussia, Pa., passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Moravian Manor. Born in Philadelphia, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Albert and Olive (Bardsley) Miller. She was married to G. Ralph Joseph for 40 years, who passed away in 1986.

Norma was a 1941 honors graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls. She worked as a bookkeeper for the former East Falls Chemical Corporation retiring from there in 1993. Norma was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairview Village, PA for over 40 years. She was an avid reader and was a member of the alumni association of the Philadelphia High School for Girls.

Throughout her life, Norma was intrinsic to the happiness of those around her through her sense of humor, often bending language to better suit the occasion and caring, by extending her heart and home to grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who became her own.  Norma’s home was alive with love, art, music, literature, and film.  She loved traditions and brought verve and fun to the preparations often making them better than the event itself.   We will miss her intelligence, insight, wit, humor, affection, and deep, deep love.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou, wife of Jesse Alvarado, of TX; her son, Brian Tischler, husband of Dianne, of Lakeview, Mn.; a brother, James Miller, of Barnsboro, NJ; Six Grandchildren, Hannah, Heidi, Kathi, Krista, Matthew and Sarah; four Great-grandchildren, and many extended family.  She was preceded in death by her brothers David Miller and Paul Miller; a sister Phyllis Cassidy; and her daughter Phyllis-jane Stetser.

A Funeral Service will be at 11AM on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with Rev. Kim Guiser officiating. A viewing will be at the funeral home on Monday between 10-11AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Norma’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1190 Valley Forge Road, Norristown, PA 19403. Barry and I were saddened to hear of Norma’s passing.

Norma was truly among my favorite cousins and I had numerous favorite cousins as we had a large and lovely family. My Mother and Father, better known as Aunt Ada and Uncle Harry each had many bothers and sisters. They would entertain family reunions up on the farm at Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. There was always lots of food, fun and a great game of baseball out in the corn field that Daddy cleared with the old Ford tactor.

I have very fond memories of spending summer vacations at Norma and Ralph’s playing happily with Phyllis Jane and Mary Lou. We would walk to the corner store to buy popsicles. (That was great as there were no corner stores living out in the country on a farm.) I remember Norma’s french toast that she made us for breakfast. It was so good. I bet I ate a half dozen slices (shame on me).

I have great memories of going to the beach with Aunt Olive, Norma, Ralph, Phyllis, Mary Lou and my Mother, Dad and brother.

We have lived in the Atlanta area for the last 30 years and I had really almost lost touch with my whole extended family. A few years ago Barry and I had an opportunity to reunite with Norma, Phyllis, Jack, Kathy, Phyl Jane’s daughters and Bob. That was such a special time for us and I had always hoped that I would have been able to see so many more of you. Some of us took a trip up to the old farm place. Everything was still as I remembered, just a little worse for wear. The years really took a toll on the property. But we reminised about old times. This was the first time my Barry had ever even seen a little glimpse of my life as a little girl. So many great memories that all of the cousins had a great part in.

We will all really miss Norma. She had really become the matriarch of the family in those years since Aunt Olive passed. She was a lovely person inside and out. She was very caring and a woman of great faith. I know how much she loved the Lord and it is a comfort to know that today she is looking full in His wonderful face.

Love to All,

Doris Bardsley McWilliams

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the woman I called "Mrs. Jo." She was my second mother when I was in high school with Phyl-jane, and there was no one like her—and no one better. Ever.

Sincerely,
Sharon Dudash Warycka

Dear Friends and Family,
Although I have only seen Mrs. Joe twice in the last three years (once last fall and once in 2010), it seems as if it were only yesterday that she and my mother were sitting in the kitchen of one of them, plotting another strategy for beating the bank, bumming a cigarette from one another, or pondering the wonders of God. Mrs. Joe loved her family, and her "family" included many beyond her immediate blood line, for which I will always be grateful. She had the voice of an angel, the wits of a fox, the heart of a lion, and the faith that went beyond that of most of us. I will miss her and take great consolation in the Resurrection- she is surely exchanging jokes and political commentary with many of the saints who have gone before.
God bless you and her,
Jeannie Godsall-Myers
