Nicholas Peter Skiadas, MD, 48
May 22, 1976 - September 13, 2024
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Dr. Nicholas Peter Skiadas on September 13th, 2024, in Lancaster, PA.
Dr. Nick was born on May 22, 1976, in Winchester, Massachusetts. He was a beloved son to Peter (Pano) Skiadas and Voula (Demestihas) Skiadas, and ever-loving brother to Dr. Anthony Skiadas, married to Kara Skiadas. Above all his greatest joy was being the world’s greatest Uncle and loving God Father (Nouno) to his nieces and nephews Pano, Roula, Elizabeth, and Billy Skiadas. When Nick was born, the family moved to Lancaster, PA where they lived for 10 years, then moved to Kennett Square, PA.
Dr. Nick attended the Unionville Chadds Ford School system, and graduated from Tower Hill Private School in Wilmington, DE.
Nicholas was an avid reader and scholar. He pursued the field of medicine by first starting his college education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He then proceeded to do his medical schooling at Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, PA. His residency was done at Drexel at Hahneman Hospital in Philadelphia. Finally, he pursued his fellowship in cardiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Dr. Nick pursued cardiology because of his love for his paternal grandmother Fotini Skiadas, and his beloved father Peter (Pano) who both suffered from heart disease.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Nick got his first position at Jennersville Regional Hospital in Jennersville, PA, where he practiced for 8 years while living in Kennett Square, PA. He enjoyed his position there immensely, and provided care for many of his family members and friends, since his parents lived in Kennett Square and owned Hank’s Place in Chadds Ford, PA and the Longwood Inn in Kennett Square, PA.
Dr. Nicholas always had a desire to move to a warmer climate and continued his practice of cardiology at Ascension/St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Nick helped thousands of patients by treating their heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, and many other conditions. He was beloved by both patients and colleagues, due to his dedication and genuine compassion for others. To honor his great love for his profession, and his patients, St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, will name a new wing of the cardiology department, the Nicholas P. Skiadas, MD Diagnostic Center.
While he was widely known for his career accomplishments, Nicholas had a great faith in God and attended the Greek Orthodox Church. In Jacksonville he attended St. John the Divine under the leadership of Father Nicholas Louh. While living in Lancaster until his death he attended the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church under Father Hector Firoglanis. To list his professional achievements would require a book, but even while accomplishing astonishing professional ventures, Nick remained generous, loyal, kind, and funny. He was always so proud of his Greek heritage, where he traveled to Greece frequently visiting his father’s village Homori, in the Nafpactos region of Greece.
Dr. Nick will be remembered for his beautiful soul, his passion for helping people, and his compassion. His generous spirit had no limit, reaching beyond just family and friends and touching people he barely knew. He made people feel seen and heard, and he didn’t abandon anybody in need. Due to his unwavering commitment to others, patients from Jacksonville visited him in Pennsylvania at his mother’s home, in his final days.
If asked, his nieces and nephews would say that he is remembered as being joyful and silly. He had so much fun with them playing video games, watching movies, and playing sports. Their Uncle, or “Theio” in Greek, meant the world to Pano, Roula, Elizabeth and Billy. While he will be deeply missed, the love he shared with them will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.
Nick traveled all over the world with his brother Anthony and their “crew” of cousins and friends. Nick was an avid stock trader and enjoyed reaping the benefits of the stock market.
Dr. Nick will be missed deeply, beyond words, by all who knew and loved him. But no one treasured him more than his family. He leaves behind countless wonderful memories of a life truly lived to the very fullest.
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing, on Thursday September 19, 2024, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm with a Trisagion Service at 7:00 pm at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue in Lancaster, PA 17603. Another viewing will take place on Friday September 20th from 9:30 to 11:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am with the Rev. Hector Firoglanis officiating at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 392 Charles Street, Coatesville, PA 19320. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a contribution in Nicholas’s memory to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund in Lancaster, PA. Donations can be made on the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Website website, http://annunciationorthodox.org, or a check can be sent to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hersey Avenue, Lancaster, PA.
And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.

I was a patient of Dr Skiadas here in Fernandina Beach, FL. He was smart and so insightful. I lost my son, who was also a physician, 11 years ago. I often wonder why God would claim those who do his work in healing others. My deepest sympathies.

Nick and I met during our fellowships in 2007 at Dartmouth where we connected immediately.
We shared the same passions in both medicine and sports. Coincidentally he was a fellow Johns Hopkins graduate getting his bachelor’s a couple years after me. During my year in Lebanon, New Hampshire, we shared many wonderful times together. Nick had an insatiable desire to excel in medicine. I am proud to have known him and remain in touch until his final days because that ambition to succeed in the healthcare profession rubbed off on me. I will miss him. RIP buddy. Nayeem Karim, DO

I only saw Dr. Skiadas once. He was kind and sincere and I knew he cared about me in that one appointment. I looked forward to being in his care moving forward. I was excited about the promise of a healthier future. He provided me with the confidence of knowing I was in his charge. I am so sorry to the family he left behind, but I assure you, in that one meeting he left an impact on me, and I just knew in those few minutes that he was a good, good man… God bless you all

At times of great loss like this, words are insufficient. However, I will attempt a few. Nick has been my colleague and friend for the past few years, working together in our Cardiology practice in Jacksonville. Our patient care paths crossed frequently, in our efforts to save the lives of patients with advanced cardiac disease. What struck me most about Nick, even above his brilliant diagnostic skills, was his relentess dedication to the most fragile and vulnerable patients. He would often ask me to attempt procedures (pacers, ICDS) on patients that other had given up on. In almost all cases, the patients improved. All of this was done with gentle compassion. Countless patients have benefited from his care. He also enjoyed teaching the staff (nurses, ARNPs) and they adored him. Our conversations would range from professional topics to the wider issues of our society, and of course, sports (Eagles #1 fan!). What I learned was that Nick loved his Pennsyvania home, his Greek heritage, God, and his fellow man. He was a man of God in the truest sense. It was my honor to know him. He can never be replaced. The world is a better place because he walked through it. May we honor his memory with the values he so passionately held. Dr. Tim Walsh

My sincere condolences to the Skiadas family with the loss of Dr. Skiadas. Your son, sibling, uncle literally saved my life. If it’s any help with your mourning, I would like you to know he recommended on two occasions that I transfer to another hospital for a potential heart transplant. While at the front entrance of the hospital I died, and was brought back to life with a new heart. Dr. Skiadas, his unselfishness, caring, brilliance and persistence allows me to live again. You can search for my story online. I will forever be thankful to Dr. Skiadas, and each of you for raising an outstanding young man who left a tremendous legacy of medical care for many people.

Several years ago my mother and I were patients of Dr. Birnbaum. When he stopped practicing I asked him who should we go to. I’ll never forget it. He said if we wanted a caring doctor who wanted a relationship with his patients that we should go to Dr. Skiadas. He became my mother’s, husband’s and my cardiologist. We loved him and were so sad when he went to Jacksonville. He gave us his cell number so he could help us find a new doctor. He was the best- patient with my elderly mother, thorough and most of all kind. Please accept our sincerest condolences.

I am very sorry to hear of Nick’s passing. I followed his painful journey on Facebook and am know that he is at peace. My childhood neighborhood memories of the Skiadas boys make me smile and always will. I will forever admire Nick for everything that he offered this world. And the first grade little girl who wanted to marry him one day will always remember May 22 and the cards I used to make for him but was too shy to give. 😊 Rest in peace sweet soul!

What is remarkable about Dr. Nicholas Skiadas is the wonderful impression he makes the first time you meet him. I only got to know Nick since his illness and the recent months he has spent with his loving mother, Voula, and brother, Tony, and the entire Skiadas family here in Lancaster. Dr. “Tony” is my dentist and I just can’t say enough good things about him as a person and as a dentist. After meeting Nick, I realized that they had a very special upbringing by two loving and caring parents. Sadly, Nick and Tony’s father, Panos, died recently, and that was sad enough for all to bear, especially for Voula. To lose Nick only months later can only bring terrible sadness, but the good news in all of this is the wonderful memory of these two stellar people in her life who have done so much good for so many. May their memory be eternal… With Love, Dr. Nikitas and Diana Zervanos

My dad had been a patient of Dr Skiadas. My dad was in Jennersville hospital for a different medical problem. Dr Skiadas saw him and checked on him. I and my brother received a call from him telling us that he had done some research and ( not his specialty) figured out what was going on and had him transferred to U of Penn. He was right but my father was unfortunately not going to make it. I was so very impressed with Dr Skiadas for going out of his way to help. My father had really liked him. We had lived in Chadds ford before moving to Oxford. He will be missed by so many. Sally Coyle-Grimes

Words seem to fall short: it’s so hard to express the sadness felt by Dr.Skiadas’ passing. I had the privilege of working with him at Riverside for the past three years; and to say he was a dedicated and compassionate physician is an understatement. Dr. Skiadas alway went above and beyond for his patients and the cardiology practice, a true team player and leader. I will always be grateful to him for believing in me and allowing me to be a part of the Ascension family! Such a huge loss and heart break. Our sincere condolences to his family, May God guide them and give them strength. Nikki and the Riverside InPt NPs
