Nelson Lugo, 62
August 01, 2024
Nelson Lugo, 62, of Lancaster, passed away on August 1, 2024.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Jorge Lugo, Sr. and Maria Amaro Acabeo Lugo.
Nelson had been a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years, caring for veterans at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and Conestoga View. He had also been a well-known cook at the Lancaster Dispensing Company.
He loved salsa music, especially the music of Hector Lavoe and his well-known song, “El Cantante”, and was a beautiful singer himself; he could always be found singing while he was out walking in Lancaster. He enjoyed writing and poetry, was a talented cook, and loved to discuss history, the arts and books. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge. He had a great sense of humor and he and his brother, Jorge “Jorgie” were always inseparable.
Nelson is survived by his children: Nicole Lugo Mitchell, RN of Jenkintown, and Nelson Lugo, Jr. and Jesseica Lugo, both of Lancaster; by his siblings: Bruno Soto and his wife Frances, Wanda Rodriguez and her husband Jorge, Janette Clay, and Jorge Lugo, Jr.; and by many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. There will be a celebration of life. Date to be determined.

God Bless You my brother.. I just happened to be surfing the web and somehow God just guided me to this pic.. and when I clicked it. Smh
Nelson, I’m so glad to know you never changed.. still singing like we used to do in the car, even on rainy days fogging up the windows when we were young. I can remember right now a day that you, me and jorgie were sitting in the car outside your parents house trying to sound like Michael Jackson as we sang along with “She’s Outta My Life…” We even did the little breaths and sighs in the song.
I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch in years, but you know how life is when you’re living in your own world. I remember that time I came back to Lancaster to visit and we got together one night in the 90s with Jorgie and got to reminiscing all night. You and your brother have always been a part of me no matter where I’ve been in my life adventures and I hope you never forgot about me too. Much love and blessings always my brother. I know we’ll see each other again in the spirit world when my journey on this side is over and we’ll have plenty of stories to share and songs to sing together again.
Till we meet again.. You’ll never be… {Singing like MJ}}} “Outta my liiifee.. mmm hmm.. ehh.”

He didn’t know much of me, but as a friend of one of his children I heard stories that illustrated his zest for life. When I heard him talk, I could hear her voice in his. It made me smile, because I knew despite life’s challenges it meant that he passed down the best of him. I don’t say this lightly, humor is my love language and he was one of the funniest Dad’s I have ever known, with a unique wisdom and depth to match. I hope Mr. Lugo is truly resting in peace. My heart aches for the family he’s left behind, because it is the living that feels the pain and begins the grieving process. May you all get to a place of peace and remember to tell his stories.
