Mildred S. Beam, 88

Mildred S. Beam, 88, of 64 Quaker Hills Road, Lancaster, and formerly of Talmage, PA, died on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.

Mildred was the wife of Howard Beam, and they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on May 13, 2007. Her caring heart and her love for the simple things in life were admired by all. Mildred’s faith sustained her and her sense of humor uplifted many.

Mildred was born in Hempfield Township, and was the daughter of the late D. Edgar and Mabel (Stehman) Shuman. She was a 1937 graduate of Manheim Township High School. Mildred worked as a waitress for 15 years at the former Joe Myers’ Restaurant, retiring in 1984. She previously worked at Hess Brothers Eggs, Singing Needles, and RCA.

“Mid” had a zest for life. She loved having visitors, treasured times spent with her family, and enjoyed her excursions around town. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church of Millersville.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Doris White, wife of William of Lancaster; and Marianne Wenger, wife of Larry of Leola; 3 grandchildren: Robert White, Kelly Miller, and Leann Wenger; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Daniel and J. Robert Shuman, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Baum and Mary Jane Kofroth.

She will be missed immensely by her family and friends, for all who knew her, indeed loved her.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. The viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be at Centre Church Union Cemetery, Bowmansville, PA. Pastor Joel Christman will officiate the service. Please omit flowers. Memorials in Mildred’s memory may be sent to Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, 22 Kready Avenue, Millersville, PA 17551.
